I have read various guides here and I see that one can determine which vob/cell ID is the trailer, after the entire DVD has been ripped to hard drive. Potential methods include Vobrator, DVD2AVI and IfoEdit

But is there any way to get same info direct from DVD?
e.g. any software player or can any of above tools be used?

I am asking this as I usually just rip the .m2v and the .ac3, but would like to adding some motion menus, using trailer as background

open the vts_01_0.ifo (if your movie is in vts_01) and check if you have more than 1 title.
scroll down and after the titles list, you'll see the vob id's of each title it's in the first line of each title on the end of the line (in the right side) something like:
uses vod id 1,2,3,4
then press vob extras, select strip vob id's and strip only that title. you'll have a new vob created in the destination directory.
open vobrator and demux. then use the .m2v and the .ac3 for your main menu in maestro for example.
