Hi all, first posting on your site. so please bear with me if this subject has been addressed before, I did a search but couldn,t see an answer to my query.
I have a home consumer (not PC) dvd writer, and I am waiting for delivery of a Pioneer A05 for the pc which I hope to have Thursday/Friday of this week.
The non pc writer uses dvd-r and has a facility whereby I can set the record time I need to put on the disc, example being HARRY POTTER Philosophers Stone, this has a playtime of 2hrs 27mins, the writer then calculate the best quality it needs to fit the blank disc.
my query is this: now that I have the film on a standard 4.7 DVD-R disc (macrovision already removed), would I be able to copy this on the fly in a PC, or read image to hard drive then write back to disc, along the same lines as an audio or data image but obviously using a dvd reader and writer.
Has anyone used this method?, any imput would be much appreciated.

thanks roly :)

P.S. If, as I suspect this will not work, would an administrator be kind enough to remove this thread so I will not look quite a tit when I post other requests in the future.

You can use dvddecrypter to an iso writing directly to your dvd burner. Can I inquire as to what the model/brand of your consumer recorder is.

hi Marcovan, the set is a Panasonic DMR-E30, its not the cheapest home unit on the market but it had the features I was looking for.
I had asked a couple of people I know who back up DVDs if the way I outlined earlier would work, but nobody could answer me, so I just bit the bullet and bought it all in a mad rush of blood.
as i have yet to recieve the pc writer, I assume there is software (DVDDECRYPTOR)which would convert my new "master" copy to an ISO file which I can store on HD to write back as I need, do you know how long does the conversion process takes,?

Just come across my first problem with this method, I had backed up several dvds with no probs, then I tried copying ABOUT A BOY, my writer refused to copy it as it was copyrighted. I tried a variety of connections between sender and writer including "RF", all failed, even when put onto video my writer refused to accept it.
I know I can back it up on the PC but this would defeat the object.
Any suggestions, however crazy they may sound, would be welcome.
thanks, roly

I use Smartripper not DVD Decrypter, but it should not take more than 30 minutes or so.
