Repair a damaged XviD file?

Is there anyway to do this? I know of DivFix, unfortunately (as one would expect) it strips the crap out of an XviD file and rebuilds a bad index thus rendering the file useless. Unfortunately I can't find any application that would perform a similar repair on an XviD file with the correct format. Does anybody have any ideas?

what i have is a vbr-mp3 audio track for an xvid video, and the avi file has a major glitch in it -- clearly a stream error, which, when using conventional divx videos, is handled just right by the antifreeze DS filter. however, when using the xvid dshow filter, the player freezes, when using ffdshow (error correction set to autodetect) it crashes with a GPF.

i tried the abovementioned utility, but it couldn't cope with it.

so any way I could correct the stream? any special utilities for xvid stream correction?

hmm did you tried to save the stream new with vdub or better vdubmod ? maybe this helps

virtualdubmod did the trick, so i guess beside stream corruption (which it had) the index was also corrupted. however, it's worthy of noting that if this is the case (corrupted index+stream) doesn't just freeze video playback that can be restarted by moving to a different position in the video, but it kills the video playback until host application restart. this is pretty annoying as divx at least recovers from moving a position.
