View Full Version : Problems with Subs and Chapters in Maestro

Hi everybody.
Anyone using Maestro 2.9 and Windows XP Sp1 had problems importing subs and chapters?
What happens is that ( in chapters ) it only imports 3 out of 20 chapter points :( and I don't know why!!! This is happening on the "Ice Age" movie, and apparently the same ( like ) thing with the Subs, it only imports 60 out of 900!
Now my doubts are :
- Is this a problem only with this film ( ICE AGE ) because I already made a Spiderman and no problems at all
- Or is it a Operating System problem ? It's the first try after installing WinXP, Spider Man was done using Win2k SP3.
- Is there any other reason?
Please help me,
Best Regards,
Fenix.

I had the same problem with Shrek! I've done plenty of other movies, and no problems with them. So I think some titles have problems. Did you use Subrip and ChapterXtractor?

Thanks for your fast reply Benza,
So you think it's not related to any Operating System or a problem with Maestro ? Right?
Yes I used the latest Subrip and also ChapterXtractor ( after trying to use the one DVD Decriptor creates with the same result )!
Did you managed to overcome the problem with your sample movie (Shrek)?
Please advise,

I don't think it is a Maestro/Subrip/XP problem. I had the problem on a Win2K machine so XP is not the problem. I have done other titles the same way as I did Shrek, but only Shrek had the problem. But why don't you IfoEdit for IceAge? It's a short movie so it doesn't have to be reencoded (I did IceAge myself with IfoEdit).

Fenix,
Are you using CCE encoder to create your movie? Did you know that it starts the chapter points at 01:00:00:00 instead of 00:00:00:00?
To get around this you need to edit the chapter file created by Chapter Xtractor. Add 1 hour to each of the chapter points and then import this into Maestro as your chapter list.

Thanks Garnett,
But no, I'm not using CCE, I'm using the original m2v file muxed from DVD Decriptor, so that 1 hour fix shouldn't apply , correct?
Please advise,

Fenix.

Yes you are correct, the movie is quite small,
But I don't know how to work with Info Edit :( , it seams quite complicated !

You are right Garnett,
After paying a bit more attention to Maestro ( selecting properties on the m2v file, under the asset window ) I saw the time offset has 00:59:58:00, so this explains everything ;).
But the solution is quite hard ( especially on the subs because there are more than 900 ) I need to add to each time frame ( on Chapters and Subs ) 1 hour a 2 seconds , right? I tried with the Chapters, and it works okay ( Now all the chapters are imported ). But what about the Subs???
Isn't any other way of putting the time offset to 00:00:00:00 on the M2V file??? I tried to put it by hand (on the Maestro time frame) but the result is the same :( . Is there any tool to reset the time offset?
Thanks for all your help,
Please advice,
Best Regards,
Fenix.
BTW: one final note the M2V was taken from the VOB directly using the Demux function of DVD Decriptor, there wasn't any re-encoding using CCE or any other encoder!!!

Here is what I have found from personal experience (I encode with CCE 2.66 default timecode of 01:00:00:00).
For the subs there are 2 solutions:
1. Set timecode to zero in Maestro, imports subs then reset it back to what it was.
2. When ripping with subrip, set a time offset equal to the time code in he video stream.
I use (1).
For the chapters, (1) does not work so I have an excel speadsheet to fix the contents for me (easy as pie then). Only supports PAL though ;)

Thanks a lot Matthew ;) you are absolutely right :)
But by the time I read your post I had already found out your solution (1) and unfortunately also the not-working with Chapters :( with that same solution.
But nevertheless that hint regarding subrip is really good ;) (thanks once again)!
Well all my problems are now resolved ;) I only have to work by hand on the chapter file ( but that's not so bad because it's quite small ) ;)
One final request ( if you don't mind and I will not be upset if you will not ) since I'm only using PAL movies can you be so kind and send me an e-mail with your zipped worksheet that allows you to automatically fix the chapter points?
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Fenix.

well i've done both movies and none needs to be reeconded, transcoded whatsoever....
in shrek i kept two menu languages two audio streams.
in ice age kept the menu and at least two audio streams.
you probably need to strip down the VTS_01_0.VOB
it's quite simple.
in ifoedit open VTS_01_0.ifo
scroll down to the menu...
double click on each "menu line" that has a vod id assigned to it, to see what they contain...
since Shrek VOB menu has got 575 vob id's and many of them are "burried" deep inside... i only kept ones i really needed.
you probably only need the main menu, scene index, special features, subtitles and audio.
well you may not like to do that but this procedure has already saved me from re-encoding a couple of times. just for you to have an idea... my VTS_01_0.VOB originally had 762 MB now it has 127 MB and it has menus in two languages.
make the calculations... 762-127=635MB i saved.
EDIT: i went and checked the vob id's i had kept and realised i only kept the main menu, but still i ended up with a 4.23GB project so had i not made that mistake and got the rest of the menu pages i would have still fallen inside the 4.37 GB limitation.

No problem, can you PM me your email address though as I can't send an attachment via VBB, and the address is not displayed in profile.
