I am trying to resolve another issue which is not really being addressed in the DVD Burning forum. All I do for DVD's is strip the main movie, one audio track and that's it, that's all...NOTHING ELSE. No menu, no subs, no extras. So, my process is quite simple.
I do a stream processing rip using dvd decrypter to get just the movie and one audio, I dvd2avi to get the audio track out and the .d2v file, and transcode using robshot in cce 2.50, i do a pulldown using only the command line: pulldown movie.m2v movie_pull.m2v
After this, the process should be simple. I open ifoedit and get the celltimes from the original IFO's of the movie. I then close it and reopen, select author dvd, put my m2v file, my audio file, and my celltimes, and I author. Everything goes great, no errors. However, and BIG however, the movie length gets totally changed by the authoring process, and furthermore, the chapter positions are way out. Nevertheless, if I burn the dvd using Nero, it does indeed play on my standalone. I couldn't ask for anything more. But, because it doesn't make sense to me, WHY is the movie length changing?? Example, Minority report goes from 145mins to under 120 mins.
Here's a twist...if I take the same files and author in Maestro, everything is great, except the damn authored files that I burn using Nero won't play on my standalone. It just sits there. This is a whole different issue for another thread and/or forum though.
So basically, I want to resolve BOTH authoring program issues, but I am here in the IFOEdit forum to try and tackle the movie length affliction. Any ideas anybody???

Is the new time about 116 minutes? That would be 80% of the original length. That sounds like the timecode was based on 29.97fps, when it should be 23.976fps

yes, that is about exactly right. So what am I supposed to do? Was it something I did wrong in the pulldown?
It seems strange that Maestro would author the movie length correctly but IFOEdit didn't.
Tell me what needs to be done to fix it. I would be eternally greatful!!! Thanx!

well, I'm still hoping for an answer...I was able to "temporarily" fix the problem by creating celltimes using 29.97 frames as opposed to 23.976 frames using chapter xtractor. That syncs up the chapters, however, the movie time is still WAY off. I see it as IMPOSSIBLE that I'm the only person that is authoring NTSC movies which were originally 23.976 frames/sec, then after transcoding with CCE and having to do a pulldown which then makes the movie 29.97 frames/sec, then authoring with IFOEdit and having my movie time length short by 20%!!! Can anyone tell me what they are doing to alleviate this problem?

i use the EXACT same process you use korkie. Except ive gotten hung up at the part on extracting cell times, not sure how to do that yet. I simply take my m2v file and my ac3 file and mux them together with spruce-up. I create my own chapterpoints and burn it. It works out fine but i would love to be able to use Ifoedit so i could use the original menu and chapter points. I wish someone could help us out here.

well guys, I'm not going to worry about this IFOEdit issue as I have now found a permanent fix using dvd maestro when authoring my transcoded movies. Simply put, after the file has been authored in Maestro, I create an image using imgtool 0.89, then I burn that image using dvd decrypter. Avoid Nero altogether, it seems to be the weakest link, and you just don't have to use it.
As far as why Ifoedit changes movie length, thus chapter points is no immaterial as the maestro solution works best. I'll still use IFOEdit for movies that don't need to be transcoded to fit onto a dvd-r, but I will create the image file.
Happy burning!

The problem is a known bug in IFOEdit, and has been discussed on some other sites forums. The problem is that IFOEdit has some bugs when dealing with files that use "pulldown" such as the ones you have had problems with. I don't know all of the specifics, but I can tell you that IFOEdit only has problems with those pulldown files and it seems to play them "faster" then it should, as a result, the audio miraculously stays in sync, however, the movie is playing more frames then it should, thus resulting in a shorter movie. You won't notice a quality difference, only a shorter movie. I am glad I researched this on my first movie authored with IFOEdit, as it allowed me to use Maestro instantaneously.
Update: A little more info on this problem is that not only is it pulldown files IFOEdit has a problem and bug with, but it's ALL .M2V files. Be careful when authoring in IFOEdit, unless you don't mind cutting your movie time down 20%.

Has anyone found a solution to this running time problem?
I've just discovered that the running time of all my trancoded NTSC dvds is too short and the chapters are therefore out of sync.
However, the actual running time seems to be ok, it's the clock of the dvd-player that appears too slow.
Is it possible to edit the running time and chapter points in ifoedit somehow so that I wont have to reencode all my NTSC dvds again?

I think the concensus was that if you author transcoded files in IFOEdit, 0.95 has that time-related bug. Therefore, just author transcoded files in DVD Maestro, import your chapters and author. Then create an image using ImgTools.exe to ensure player compatibility. If I didn't create the image, a DVD Maestro authored movie wouldn't play on my set tops, and I tested many set tops with this. That's how I fixed it. Works like a charm. Try it out.

Hi
I can't believe it's a problem without solution, i know several guys in the forum are true genious on this matter so i think they had not given any try to this post, i worked several months with maestro but the problem is to get synched subs in NTSC, i usually work ifoedit to author DVD because it lets me introduce subs without synch problems but the chapters always mark an error so i author my DVD without chapters (if you know any solution let me know, i use chapterxtractor, any other program?), only video, audio and subs, it plays great and preserves the anamorphic widescreen, which dvd maestro doesn't, so the only problem for me is the running time, it shows less than real but if you play the movie from beggining to end there are no problems, just the showed total time, any suggestions to fix this situation????????????

Is it a movie with angles? I had that same problem with Kate & Leopold, the time was always shorter when I tried to back that one up. If you watch it something will be missing from the movie, and/or it may not play right (looping).
