View Full Version : Playing back *.ts files

I've downloaded a couple of the test files from the Heuris site, to have an idea of what HDTV looks like (albeit on a monitor that only displays 1600x1200, but never mind), but I can't seem to play them. I've tried in PowerDVD and WinDVD (also tried renaming ts to mpg and mpeg) and also in WMP 6.4 and ZP 2.9, but to no avail.
I've tried using the Cyberlink, Intervideo, and ffdshow filters for playback (these files are MPEG-2, right? All I get in ZP when I use(WMP crashes) is black, except when I go to fullscreen and then come out of it I get one frame. If I use ffdshow's filter, I just get garble.
How can I play these files anyone?
Also, will the hardware acceleration on my Radreon 9000 Pro work for these files? Will they play full speed on my 1.1 GHz Athlon (old, I know)?

I've been more interested in converting them with DVD2AVI/Avisynth then playing them in software but from what I read WinDVD does the best job of software playback. IIRC you may first have to rename them to a trp extension. (one of trp, tp, or ts?)
For a discussion of various HDTV software playback options see this AVS thread (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=203738&highlight=hdtv+and+playback+and+windvd)

Use Elecard MPEG2 Video Decoder (http://www.elecard.com/) and open them in WMP6.4. If you are lazy you can rename the extension to mpg.

Thanks very much, I've got it working fine in Zoomplayer using Cyberlink video decoder (with Hardware acceleration) and Elecard demuxer. Surprisingly the clips (even the 1080i one) play fine at full framerate with only about 60% CPU usage on my system. If I turn off Hardware acceleration I get only about 15-20 fps at full CPU load. Oh well, guess I'm glad I went for the Radeon rather than the NVidia eh?
The clips look really good, except that the emotion clip (the one of the Golden Gate bridge) seems to oscillate vertically (probably something to do with the fact that it is interlaced); it seems like it's going up and down a line every frame or something?
I might try downloading the other two clips from that site, though they are very big...
Does anyone know of anywhere else to download HD clips from?

Emotion clip does ivtc perfectly. I passed it thru decomb with postprocessing off and decimate of 5, and the output was correct. It didnt look like a casual DVD FILM content interlacing though.

443MB at 6.24kb a sec, 17hrs for the clip.
I'm anxious to get my hands on it though, if anyone knows any other sites with clips please let me know also. I've only seen full sized JPEGs up to now.

I forget which link it was from that though.

Elecard Mpeg2 Video Decoder does support Hardware acceleration for mpeg files. To enable it, call decoder settings in any player and set: Hardware acceleration – on.
Otherwise directly in Elecard mpeg player call settings/video and switch on Hardware acceleration.
