I second this question...In scrafec the original DVD (PAL r2)has srm files next to the main vob files.....and if you taske these with you with the final production and try to use ifoupdate it will not update ..but without the srm files it will and it will also work just fine ....so what is the srm file for then??? Do we need to include it in the final production or not?????

welll decided to not use the srm files in the final production ....and it works just fine without them ....since ifoupdate does not update them and neither does ifoedit.....i guess there was no other choice...and besides that ...the final production worked just fine......however ...it could be that for other DVD's that it might not work without the srm files.........hope someone still replies to this thread who know more about srm files:)

Think srm files are generated during subtitle ripping..
think they r theway subtitle ripper stores the language/ocr matrix for the vobset in question...(if used)
srm = SubRipMatrix
if so they can be discarded as they don't have anything to do with the dvd title except from subrips point of view.
not an expert.. so plz feel free to correct if i'm wrong...
