View Full Version : reading/decrypting damaged disk

I have a dvd disk which is damaged somewhere in the middle of a large VOB. DVD Decrypter (even with the "fast skip" option with 20 counts) fails to read it (it gives an error and then aborts (for that VOB)). PowerDVD also fails playback at the point of damage. My standalone gets into a blocking (sometimes freezing) mode!

Is there a way, with DVD Decrypter, for instance, to skip that cluster and carry on reading the rest. I would like to decrypt the rest of the VOB apart from the damaged data cluster... Perhaps to remove those a few seconds of damaged data... (May be I am asking for too much :) )

Thanks in advance.

Just keep skipping (ignoring) the bad sectors.

Lightning, thanks for the answer and the totally a-m-a-z-i-n-g tool !

I have returned the disk back to the shop and got an undamaged one. I thought I had tried the "skip fast error" option unticked as well but it did not work, but I am not sure anymore. I guess if it really bad, then the dvd controller may loose track of itsself!

But as Nuno asks, tell us: does decrypter skip the damaged cluster and then appends the decrypted/read data parts excluding the damaged one or does some sort of padding? what happens then?

Thanks again in advcance.
