Great, the firmware for the A05 removes the annoying mountdelay with CD-R-media. My A05 needed about 20s to mount a simple Taiyo-Yuden-CD-R, and sounded very stressed during the process. Now it mounts the empy media smoothly and without any unusual delay.

I haven't had time to check DVD-R, but after one catastrophic failure, my stocks in DVD-Rs are all high-quality brands, so I don't care for the moment.

Thanks for the heads-up :-)

Bye,

Detlev

The comments at that source do not seem very competent. There are a lot of posts complaining about bad discs from cheap media, and the fact that those fake TDKs are still working badly.

I guess they never read about GIGO.

I don't see any updates for my DVR-103. There is only update for DVR-A03. They name DVR-A05 and DVR-105 together and also A04 and 104 but only A03 and not 103. What gives? What should I do?

the a03 is a bulk , the 103 is the version with software....
i think, so the burners are identical, only the software-package is different.

Yeah I always thought the A03 and 103 were identical, one is OEM and the other is retail. So it should be fine.
My Pioneer box says A03, but my drive identifies itself as a 103.
anyway, I just ran the 2.00 firmware update and it worked!!
It says it supports 2x writing on new 4X media. That is going to be so cool if that really works!!!
Last night I got 4x DVD-ON media but it only burns at 1x on my A03. So I'm hoping that now it'll burn at 2x after this update.
I probably can't try it till tonight though.

On the Pioneer 104/A04, the new firmware is 1.4. it says that it will support 4x burning, have better writing ability and some other stuff. Still debating if i will upgrade.

The upgrade went fine on my A03. It also allows it to burn 2X on the new Ritek G04's :)
pretty cool!

@Atreides

Where did you buy those Ritek G04 ? Are you happy with them after burning in x2 ?

I got them at supermediastore.com

I think Rima.com also has them.

They look the same as the Ritek G03's

You didn't read it right... It only mentioned that it adds x2 burning support for new x4 DVD-Rs.
