View Full Version : BeSweetv1.5b mp2 encoding - 'not scaled properly' bug
markrb
18th December 2002, 06:05
Just a quick note. I replaced the included 1.5B1 with the 1.5B8 beta and had an issue that was not present in the previous version.
When converting an AC3 DVD I got a "Not Scaled Properly" error with B8. This did not happen with B1. I tried several times to make sure I could reproduce the problem and each and everytime the error happened while with B1 it never did.
The error was constant(100's and 100's of them scrolling) and the log showed nothing out of the ordinary, but BeSweet never finished.
Don't shoot me for not doing this properly. Time is short and I thought I should tell you. I can use 1.5B1 so it's no real issue for me.

thanks mark.
please post your logfile and let me know what was your source audio file (ac3 ? mpa ? 3/2 ? mono ?)
markrb

I will get both logs as soon as I have time.
The source was an AC3 from a DVD. I believe I read somewhere that it is 4 channel, but I can't find that right now.
I was converting inside DVD2SVCD for an SVCD.
I will run B8 again to get a log, but it never finishes so not much gets written in the log. All there is, is that error scrolling in the Dos screen, but it never gets written to the log.
I am in crunch time right now as I am getting ready for a trip. I leave first thing Saturday for two weeks and have a ton to do before I go. This is on my list. I won't let you down. I won't have time to try anything though after I post the logs.

enjoy your vacation, mark! and whenever possible, try encoding to plain stereo wav, to see what's going-on.

Here is the log, although I can't see any indication of a problem.
I ran 1.5B8 again and had the same constant scrolling error again.
When I get back if you give me a command line to use I will try it, but it will be at least 2 weeks from now.
It did finish, but took about 3 times longer then normal to complete.

Hi. First of all, Merry Christmas!
I have a very similar problem with a movie which became an unicorn to me, after
more than a month tryouts. :sly:
Well, it's a DivX .AVI file (1.8GB) I'm trying to convert to SVCD by DVD2SVCD (Avi
configured, of course).
I'm attaching the full log of the last process, done w/ the lastest D2S v1.1.0.b1c
and BeSweet v1.5b10 (I tried with almost every version since 1.4stable)
Problem, as described above, is the extremely high noise in the .mp2 file, just
like a rithmic tick all along the movie (slow scene drama I encoded with Image Qual
Priority = 22, JFYI) And only the MP2 encoded file.
Infact, if I play both Extracted_audio_1.mpa (65mb) or
Encoded_audio_1.mp2.wav (903mb), everything sounds perfectly!
Instead, Encoded_audio_1.mp2 (260mb) is fullfilled of noisy rumors (without
any voice or sound) !
During the second pass of BeSweet audio encoding, I also see an unterminate
sequence of 'Not scaled properly' ...
Btw, when the audio process ends, I obtain the described files...
Logs recorded a couple days ago follow:
Encoded_audio_1.log

hi there
what means 'not scaled propery x y z X' ?
came during transcoding a 48khz VBR-MP3 (23.976 -> 25fps) (joint stereo) using latest beta of besweet (b10?) the resulting file carries all but silence ?
the gui0.6b66 made this command :
"BeSweet.exe" -core( -input "g:\48khzVBRmp3.mp3" -output "g:\48khzmp2.mp2" -logfile "G:\BeSweet.log" ) -azid( -n1 -s stereo -c normal -L -3db --maximize ) -ota( -r 23976 25000 ) -2lame( -m s -p 1 -b 192 -e )
any hints?
thx

Thanks, Guru.
Btw, I've already tried the base version and the output encoded file doesn't contain any sound or voice at all. :(
Mute ... :scared: That's why I tried to upgrade the D2S internal version with some new one.
I fear those AVIs are recorded in mono or whatever; not compatible with BeSweet versions till now... :(
Even I tried to set the output to joint stereo or even 5.1, but without success.
Thanks again.

Hi!
I have a problem of converting ac3 to mp2 using Besweet 1.5b11. First there is the gain search with no problem, but then I've got a lot of messages like:
not scaled properly 0 (and the other numbers change too fast to read)
Unfortunately the Besweet.log gives me no hint:

I've got a file of the expected size, but it has no sound.
Converting to ogg vorbis i.e. is no prob. I've tested it with another ac3 but the same problem occurs. Curiously it had worked under my old W2k system but as I upgraded to WinXP pro this error occurs.
Are there any suggestions to solve this?

P.S.: Sorry for the bad english.

Now I tried the 1.5b11 version, with a lot less 'not scaled' but still they persist, along with the noise in SVCD (mp2) audio reproduction.

i'm trying to find the common part of all bugreports :
1. mark asserted negative delay.
2. Val3r10 used shibatch (ssrc). source file might be mono.
3. ragol8r didn't post a logfile.
4. empty now uses winXP
5. gudea uses winXP, shibatch. problem solved after replacing his ram.
so here are my questions :
1. what os are you using ?
2. is your source file mono or stereo ?
3. ragol8r - post your logfile!
4. please test your ram with memtest (http://www.memtest86.com/).

Sorry for disturbing,
I had a problem with BeSweet 1.5b10 MP2 encoding the last weeks, too. I also got this strange 'not scaled properly' message. This went away using 1.5b11. I have to clarify that I didn't update 1.5b10 to 1.5b11 but always 1.4 stable to the betas. After examining the packages a little more I found that in 1.5b10 was a newer mp2enc.dll (P3 optimized version I guess), which wasn't there in 1.5b11 any longer. So using the 1.4 included mp2enc.dll I didn't have any problems.
I hope this helps anyhow.

I am back now from my trip, but am really busy with other things so I don't know how much time I have to help on this, but what I have is yours.
To add some info and maybe clarify what was happening:
1. OS Windows XP
2. Source Malcolm in the Middle DVD R1. I own it so I have it to use for testing.
3. AC3 Audio
4. DVD2SVCD created the same command line for B1 as it did B8.
5. B1 never caused this issue. I re-installed and tested to be sure.
Maybe this will help.
Mark

Well,
as far as I know b1 didn't contain the new mp2enc.dll. I read somewhere that it was introduced in b8 and b10 also contained that build dated December. The original was dated May 2002, as included in 1.4 stable. b11 no longer contains the newer build.
Question to DSPGuru: Did it cause other problems so you decided to withdraw that file again from the beta releases? Well, I didn't follow that thread as I just came recently back to SVCD. Otherwise I just use the betas for it's hybridgain when encoding to Vorbis.

I cannot be 100% sure if I encoded an AC3 source with the new mp2enc.dll that I downloaded from the DVD2SVCD advanced forum with B1, but I did use Besweet B1 with that dll for awhile.
At the time I was mostly doing Avi's and not AC3 DVD's though.

I can reproduce this issue 100% of the time with any AC3 (extracted from DVD by DVD2SVCD) if the following two conditions are met:
- Athlon CPU
- mp2enc.dll from Besweet 1.5b11
If I use the "earlier new" P3 optimized mp2enc.dll DSPGuru posted at http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=39932, everything is fine on the Athlon. I never have this issue with any version of mp2enc.dll on my P4 system. Hope this helps.

:( Thanks for goin'on with this issue, but it still doesn't solve the problem.
- Athlon CPU
- Besweet 1.5b12
- mp2enc.dll from your post above (P3-optimized)
I still have tons of 'not scaled properly' errors on some AVI files
(always the same). Until besweet locks at all and dvd2svcd stays in waiting state.
Alternatively, I obtain a perfect .wav file and a noise-filled .mp2 output file. :(

As you suggested here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=231226#post231226), I always used the stable version. Started using the new beta ones because I had a lot of noise and crackles with the 1.4.
With some beta releases the .dll process locks at all. With the stable one I can hear on the mp2 ONLY noise and no voices.
Thanks again
