I haven't a clue which forum to post in, so I've posted this in a couple.
My problem is confusing, and I don't know which software may be causing the problem.
I've been creating my own DVDs from TV series recorded on a Philips 890. Until recently, I've had very few problems, but on my last DVD, what I believe is a field order problem arose. The series was 6 episodes of half an hour each. I didn't want to record all 6 on one DVD on the Philips, so I did 2 episodes each on 3 DVD+RWs at HQ quality. I then used DVD Decrypter in file copy mode to copy the VOBs to my PC. I then used DVD2AVI to get a project file, then created an avs file to use in CCE.
After encoding, episodes 1 and 2 where fine, but episodes 3 and 4 and episodes 5 and 6 had a "wobbly" appearance in fast moving parts of the film. After checking this forum, I realised this was a field order problem, although it was strange that this was the first time I had encountered it, as all my recordings come from the same source (TiVo). I corrected the problem by selecting "Swap Field Order" in DVD2AVI.
I've recently copied another 6 episode series in the same manner, but now all six episodes suffer the same problem and swapping the field order hasn't made a difference.
I did some further investigation, and the problem only seems to appear after I've used DVD Decrypter to get the files off the original DVD (I've also tried Stream Processing mode).
To clarify this; if I play the original Philips 890 produced DVD+RW in WinDVD, the movie runs smoothly. As soon as I use DVD Decrypter to copy the files to the PC, and before using DVD2AVI, the movie becomes "wobbly" whenever there is movement.
I hope this makes sense to someone; it's extremely difficult to describe what is happening.
By the way, I'm in the UK, so the source is PAL. I'm using the latest versions of DVD Decrypter and DVD2AVI, and version 2.50 of CCE. My system is running Win XP Pro SP1.
I've also attached a readout from Bitrate Viewer of the original DVD+RW disk, and one from the VOB files on the PC. As you can see, they are the same.
