View Full Version : always rip only angle 1 with DvdDecrypter?

I recently had my first major hickup with a DVD - as Sixth Sense has multiple angles that seem to interleave french and english text into the movie.

I've been ripping the DVDs with DVDDecrypter, taking just the VOBs (possibly using VobEdit to join renamed VOBs if they didn't start at VTS_01_1.VOB) and greating new IFOs with IfoEdit (sometimes stripping out audio except DTS with IfoEdit), closing IfoEdit, doing GetVTSSectors with IfoEdit and saving - and then burning with ImgTool.

This results in a DVD that plays with no menus, and will start with DTS if I ripped out everything else.

Should I revise my ripping strategy so that 1st thing is to check whether a movie is multi-angle. If so, only rip the 1st angle?

I am a bit unclear on this, as the master of decrypting, LIGHTNING UK!, mentioned in one link that you should decrypt the DVD entirely, keeping all angles and IFOs - and then use IfoEdit to strip the angles.

i do it in a diferent way.
i ripp the whole DVD in file mode.
i select all files and ripp.
now if your Main movie is VTS_03_xx.vob for example, all you need is to include the VTS_01_xx.vob ifo and bup set of files.
start ifo edit. load video_ts.ifo and press DVDplay
when the menu apears press play movie.
wait a couple of seconds and press exit.
ifo edit will open a windows saying something like:

titles played:
title1 -> VTS_01_xx

and if more than 1 title is played than more will apear in that window
so remember all the vts sets of files ifoedit said i played. those are the sets you need to include in your final DVD.

I always have angles stripped in dvd decrypter. Just do it, you'll be glad you did. This saves one step in ifoedit. I just did sixth sense and it came out flawless.
