View Full Version : How do I use DTS with "full copy" guide?

This is the first time I've had a go at doing a DVD copy re-encoding the video.
I'm trying to give this re-encoding video a go using SE7EN as my test guinea pig. I've extracted the DD5.1 track and is successfully stored as an ac3 file. I also downloaded the latest DVD2AVI release to extract the DTS track.
I'd like to be able to do a full copy, keeping existing menus etc. I've read ahead in the guide and it uses IFOUpdate, however, will it automatically make the DTS track the default? Would the DVD play ok provided people selected the DTS track etc.?
Thanks for any suggestions,
Paul

You do not have a DTS file. The "AC3" file you referred to is Dolby Digital. DVD2AVI does not extract DTS. You have to use DVD Decrypter for that. That being said, if you're following the guides(http://dvdguides.trilight.net) then you shouldn't have a problem. However, if you do not realize that "AC3" does not denote DTS then you may find them (and thus, your project) a bit complicated.
PS. I edited the title of your post. Please try to make it more descriptive of your exact problem/question next time. Thanks!

Actually Sarge, the latest release of DVD2AVI (v1.77.3) does support DTS demuxing.
I usually keep only the DTS track if I make a backup. Except in some rare cases (ie. The Rock - Criterion Ed.) the DTS is hands down the best sounding audio track. If you decide to keep a Dolby track for your friends w/o a DTS receiver, use the 2.0 surround as it will hog a little less room. Make sure if you only keep the DTS track, that you edit the main VIDEO_TS.IFO to show that the first audio track is now DTS (if it wasn't already). If you don't do this, there might be some confusion between your DVD player and receiver and the sound may not play. This happens on my setup if I forget to do this.

Thanks for the info! I was not aware that it supported DTS now. Unfortunately, it does not support CLI so I'm going to stick with the automated way of using DoItFast4U! It's time consuming enough recreating some titles. I'll take the speed advantage where I can find it. :)

Thanks for the replies. In the end it worked fine, the latest release successfully extracted the DTS track and I replaced Audio Track 1 with it (originally DD5.1). I was going to see if I could fit the 5.1 and DTS tracks on, but I was marginally over and so decided to just leave it with DTS.
This all works fine, but I was wondering whether it's possible to keep DD2.0 (or 5.1 -- assuming there's space) along with DTS, putting DTS in the same position as on the original compile so that when you go to the audio menu it selects it?
From any of the DVDs I've looked at using IFOEdit the DTS track appears to be at a set location? Other languages use a range of values like 0x70 through 0x77, whereas DTS almost always seems to be something like 0x7E. The hex values aren't correct, but its that kind of thing.

Yes, you can keep any audio you like.
