View Full Version : VirtualDubMod 1.4.13.1 released!

Mery X-mas everybody! :D
[VirtualDubMod 1.4.13.1]
S_O & fccHandler (virtualdub.everwicked.com):
- Fixed several Mpeg-1 problems:
* Audio Layer 1 wasn't played correctly (fccHandler)
(Layer2.cpp in NekoAmp modified)
* VBR Audio wasn't parsed correctly (fccHandler)
* MPEG with multiple Video/Audio-Streams wasn't played correctly (fccHandler)
* Fixed the bug introduced by multiple stream-fix where mpegs with no
0xC0/0xE0 audio/video stream cannot be opened (S_O)
* Stream Selection in the MPEG-Opening-Dialog works (S_O)
* Accepts Partial MPEGs by default (with warning message) (S_O)
* The most terrible bug of all fixed (S_O comment ;)) :
The flying cube-icon in the about-dialog now starts at a random place.
Stone-D:
- Added the ability to import ASF format videos [1]
This Code is only for educational purposes and not activated
for binary releases!
- Added code to auto-resize main window when :
* Opening AVI
* Toggling Vert/Swap
* Misc other locations which I've forgotten. ;)
- Centre main window at startup
- Prevented crash when closing dubmod while dub in progress.
[1] Uncomment "#define ALLOW_ASF_PARSING" in VirtualDub.h
Belgabor:
- Configurable Hotkeys. Main Window, Capture Window & Script Editor. This means the
old config dialog for the switchable hotkey for refresh / preview is now gone.
- Made P4 compilation work. Added a new configuration for it. (Mind that I made the
compilation work. I have no P4, so I cant check if the resulting file actually works!)
- AviSynth Information in Script Editor showing AviSynth version
- Help
- Removed OGG/Vorbis for "normal" AVI audio. It won't ever work and its greyed out state
confused users.
- Added Stone-D's autorsize stuff on Refresh
- New cool (Cyrius didnt like '1337' :p) About Box :p
- Save performance settings. This includes the options set in "Options\Performance...",
"Options\Dynamic Compilation...", "Options\Drop Frames when behind" and "Options\
Enable DirectDraw acceleration"
Pulco-Citron:
- AVI information dialog : bye bye "unknown tag 2000" when opening a file with an AC3 stream.
- when opening MPEG2 files, audio streams are auto-detected, sometimes (bye bye "unknown audio
stream"). Still not works for every file (very short files often cause problems).
Remember that opening vob files is always easier with a smartripper .txt file...
- Ability to choose output directory for files generated by the MPEG2 import filter.
- Ability to force re-generation of audio and index file for MPEG2.
- CBR MP3 in audio menus. Script support should be working too.
- The host list in the job control window is no longer updated when opening the window:
the user must click "update". The reason is that on big (really big) LANs the time to
build the host list is very very long.
Cyrius:
- Fixed a memory leak when saving to PNG files.
- Fixed bug showing wrong progress status when saving / demuxing an audio stream.
- Merged with VirtualDub 1.4.13.
- Added "Title", "Author", "Copyleft" and "Comment" fields when saving to AVI (like
in Nandub).
- Merged LAN mods from Thomas-Matern (website : http://www.matern-parkett.de/dub/).
Not really tested (don't have a LAN here ^^).
- Fixed a bug not taking into account external Ogg/AC3/MP3/SRT streams when computing file
position.
- Fixed a bug causing VBR audio being out of synch when saving a part of a clip (not beginning
at the first frame of the clip) where subsets have been masked / deleted.
(CBR version ofarm_disallowed_event this bug have been fixed in 1.4.11.2).
- Made some changes in the internal resize filter GUI (thanks to mf suggestions).
- Fixed a crash when using subsets on an OGM file in some cases.
- Made some changes in the way VirtualDubMod select where to split an AVI file when using
"Save segmented AVI". It should now cut on a KeyFrame, but only in those specific cases :
* You are in 'DirectStream copy' mode.
* You are in another mode, but do not use any preload for the audio.
The preload feature make it 'impossible' to be able to cut on a KeyFrame when compressing.
- When opening an OGM file, now try to 'detect' if an offset have been used on the streams.
If an offset seems to be present use it in 'Show inputs' as default offset for the stream.
- The default jobs file name is now based on the .exe name, which means that if you rename
VirtualDubMod.exe in VirtualDub.exe then the default jobs file will become VirtualDub.jobs
instead of VirtualDubMod.jobs [2].
- External files selected in 'OGM -> Show inputs' window are not removed anymore when using
the 'Refresh' feature.
- Fixed some bugs in the 'Go to last keyframe' feature :
* Now take into account the (selected) streams loaded in the 'OGM -> Show inputs' window.
* Go on the last keyframe in the clip when the size entered is between this frame and the end
of the file.
- You can now put the 'Save WAV' & 'Demux audio' in your Job list.
- Fixed a bug adding some (46) 0x00 bytes at the end of a 'Demux audio' file.
[2] Note for GordianKnot users : this is a workaround for current versions of GKnot which uses
only the VirtualDub.jobs file in batch mode. To be able to use GKnot as usual you just need
to rename VirtualDubMod.exe in VirtualDub.exe
One last note: The NET/LAN mod is pretty alpha, we don't know how good it interacts with all the other stuff we added. Please test it & report what you find =)
Very last note: It could be worthwhile to be patient in the new about box on special days :p

Thx =)
I forgot to put a file into the release, its not really necessary, but I'll attach it here and update the package on sf asap.
(You only need it if you use the NET/LAN mod and have hosts that can't be found by 'Update')

Does that mean that there will not be asf support for the public? Is it now possible to put asf-streams into an avi or ogm container?
Belgabor

It means you have to download the source and compile it yourself (naturally for your own education ;) )
Is it now possible to put asf-streams into an avi or ogm container?
You're mixing up things there. ASF is a container like avi and ogm, so you can't put it into them. The codec used is most often MSMPEGv3 (i think) and some wmv version for audio. If you transmux an asf to avi or ogm you need cracked codecs b/c M$ locked their codecs for any other file format than ASF.

Thank you very much for this christmas present ;-)
It's really one of the best tool I ever used !!
(and I'm not sure beccause I just tried 1.4.13.1 for a few minutes, but it seems that it's now possible to use differents computers at the same time, througth LAN, to encode something. If I'm right, ans if it works, It's really a GREAT features !! ;-) Old computers can be usefull again ;-P).
Thanks again @ all the VdubMod DEV team for this usefull tool !

Yes, thats possible, although it has some caveats (see the help file), most importantly 2pass encodings don't work (yet)

Yes I read the whole german Guide... Then I saw the Help of VdubMod, much easier to understand.
And the big "Tricks" is that Video-path must be in "network-format" ( "\\Host\d\repertory\video.avi" . Logical, I know.. but I've lost lot of time with it.. ;-) )
Do you think 2-pass mode could be possible 1 day ?
Seewen
P.S.
It has nothing to do with LAN, but it seems that the new Gordian Knot 0.27 cannot use VdubMod, even if you rename it to VirtualDub.exe ( I didn't try with previous versions). But other ALl-In-One like DivX5_Enc works very weel with it.

joblist of vdub_mod and 'usual vdub' is different... that's why GKnot won't encode as expected - stick to VDub as usual or "encode by hand"

We'll do our best. I hadn't the time yet to actually look into how the mod works internally, but i think we should be able to find a solution for certain codecs (XviD and Divx5 come to my mind for that), I'm sure a general solution is impossible.

Hi everyone, this message has two sides......the first one, is to thanks all the people related to VDM.......i think is the BEST....so, thanks again.
The second side is to make a stupid question........tomorrow i´ll leave home for about 2 days, and i am planning to convert 5 movies to XVID in this time........when i save the projects in the "job control", the program saves ALL the codec settings??? for example, the starting-ending credits values, the desired size, etc???
Thanks to everyone and, as usual, i apologize for my POOR english.

It's not extremely important, but it will be a big gain of time if it where possible ;-) ( And I think that the most important is XviD and DIvX5, beccause both are the best "divx".. At least for me. Sorry for DivX 3 fan's ;-) ).

Like I said in several spots, we will never put Divx 3 SBC into VDubMod. The good news for SBC fans is is that the original author of the NET/LAN mod has a modified nandub on his page which does 2pass SBC in net mode. (See the link in the changelog)

Hi I have a problem running in LAN mode.
In the job-control panel after I press the 'update' button I can actually see all machines connected(from all machines).
I'm trying this between two pcs for now, and the problem arise when I choose master/slave on both, it seems to me that vdubmod cant recognize the state(slave/master) of the clients.
Its like it see there are pcs on the lan, but cant understand theyr state, so for example on the master no slave is recognized, I get 'not connected' even for the pc that I actually put as slave.
I tried to modify the hosts.info file, putting on each client the others ips without success...
Is there something I'm doing wrong ?
My LAN is DHCP based.

Hi,
I have a "problem" with the resize and recenter functions that are now in VirtualDubMod. Every time I reload an AVISynth script (i.e. F5) the window gets resized and recentered.
Is it possible to make this feature configurable?

(Wrong ;)) I just found that something related to the LAN mods make VDubMod crash when being launched for running stored jobs (which is the way GKnot seems to use VirtualDub). I fixed it.
Sorry for the inconvenience :(

Having a strange problem with the latest VDubMod. Note that I have put all of the "needed DLLs" in the same dir as vdubmod, along with that Lexer file.
I'm using Avisynth 2.5, the latest alpha. When I try to load a YV12 .avs file which is perfectly Avisynth 2.5 compliant, VDubMod refuses to load it, saying that it has no fourcc handler for "YV12".
However, I *can* load that .avs file into AVS2AVI and encode an AVI from it using that program.
Any idea why VDubMod is choking on it?

Hi Belgabor,
I had no time to make big tests with DivX5Enc+VDubMod, anyway seems to work correctly.
I'm using OLNY vcf files to run the encodes, can you tell me if there are some changes in the vcf scripting language compared to the standard VDub?
My most elaborate script is something like this:
VirtualDub.Open("blablabla",0,0);
VirtualDub.video.SetMode(1);
VirtualDub.audio.SetSource(0);
VirtualDub.video.SetCompression(0x78766964,0,10000,0);
VirtualDub.video.SetCompData(xxx,"blablabla");
VirtualDub.SaveAVI("blablabla");
VirtualDub.video.SetCompData(xxx,"blablabla");
VirtualDub.SaveAVI("blablabla");
VirtualDub.Close();
(i haven't found any docs about VDubMod+vcf scripting, so i hope no changes :))
Thank you!

Yeah I know. But it is the same under VirtualDub too ;)
IIRC B-frames (for DivX 5 or XviD) in AVI are 'possible' thanks to some tricks that make it really hard (and nearly impossible) to get the correct frames under VDub ...

Ok, and, bonus question, is there a trick to know the good frame number of a frame, even if VDub doesn't show it ? Because since I use b-frames, splitting my files has become a lot of "try and see".

Hello,
Somethind strange happend with VdubMod.
Before, when I open an Avi/AVScript, the preview windows was big when the size was 720x576, for example.
But since today, when I open a AVi/Avscript, the preview windows is 1/4 the size that it's in VirtualDub !
I think that I didn't touch anything.. (but I had to.. and didn't noticed what I've touched).
I try to erease VdubMod and the Re-install it, and it's the same (Preview windows in/out is 1/4 the size of Vdub ).
Happend with VdubMod 1.4.13.1 and VdubMod 29.12.2002.
EDIT : SORRY , it's my fault.. I just founded the solution 1 minute after posting :rolleyes: ( right click on screen -> normal )

Do you have a codec installed that can handle YV12? Iirc you need DivX5 or a devel version of xvid for that.
(If I got that right, VDub needs a codec that can display raw YV12 for display purposes)

I think I understand what he is saying. There needs to be some sort of codec capable of handling YV12 colorspace for VDubMod to open a YV12/AVS25 script.
I assumed that my XviD *stable* codec was fully compatible with YV12, since I have been using avs2avi in YV12 mode with success.
I guess I'll have to install Divx 5.0.2 or something...
Belgabor
1st January 2003, 03:37
As much as I gathered from several threads it has to be the devel version of xvid (or DivX5)
Rhaegar Targaryen
1st January 2003, 04:27
Installing Divx 5.0.2 made everything work like it should. I didn't want to install the devel Xvid build, since I prefer to use the "official" stable one only, for now.
Edit: (clarification) The older stable build (Koepi's October 04) can encode using Avisynth 2.5 in YV12 mode just fine - it just can't display raw YV12 frames. Note that displaying raw YV12 frames has nothing to do with Xvid encoding per se, but the dev Xvid build as well as Divx 5.0.2 seem to have this function built-in. So if you want to use the stable Xvid build in Avisynth 2.5/YV12 - just install Divx 5.0.2.

In VDubMod 1.4.13.1 Stone-D implemented an automatic 'recenter & resize' feature.
This feature will resize the image (the panels, not the video of course : using the 1, 1/2, 1/4 size options of the panel) shown in VDubMod so that you can see both input & output panel.
I think this is what you experienced ...

I think this is what you experienced ... And that "feature" is turned off where? It wouldn't be as bad if it did a decent job of resizing. Nearest Neighbor isn't however what I'd consider decent. It makes it very hard to see any details in the video.

Can somebody explain this a little bit more deeply ??
I was trying to encode to Divx using two computers in a LAN, and I have some questions/problems:
1- Must the filters/codecs be installed in both computers ?? For example, if I use some plugins for avisynth, where do I put them.
For instance I can write the avs file in one computer, but how does the other one know where to find those plugins ??
2- I've tried once the process, but the Slave machine didn't find the avs file. I guess that it is related to the path, but I don't know exactly how to solve it. Where do I have to change the path ?? In the script, when I load the plugins, do I have to change the path also ?? How do I exactly build those paths ??
3- For 2-pass encoding, I've read it will not work. Is it sure ?? If I do the first pass and, when it is finished, I begin the second pass, would it work ??
Thanks for any help.

You have to install everything on both pcs so they could encode the files themselves. The only data transferred is something like a jobs file describing what the slave has to do.

If you use avisynth you have to set all paths in a way that VDubMod and AviSynth can find thier stuff on all machines you use. One possible solution is putting everything on a public share and using the net path (eg "\\MyServer\videostuff"). Another possibility is copy everything to the same path on each machine (eg "c:\"). What could be possible is having a diffrent avs file on each machine (but sitting on the same path, like "c:\" for example) that points to the file locations on that specific machine.

The problem for two pass encoding is that the codecs is the splitting of the respective stats (or log for div4/5) file that would be necessary. The codec always (afaik) uses the stats data from the start of the stats file, but the slave sould lets say use the data from frame x to frame y. So what needs to be done is splitting the stats file according to the splitting of encoding segments decided by the master.
I hope this cleared things up a bit (and I didnt tell crap ;))
