In my personal opinion, KDE seems overloaded, slow, and has too much dependencies.

I prefer the console. Then I must use X, I'll use IceWM. Now if there could only be a frame buffer GUI (GDK-based or other).

icewm on small systems and for exporting desktops across networks, and kde3 for my own local workstation.

KDE3 and Gnome2 are both winners in my book. Currently I find myself turning more towards KDE as it feels more complete than Gnome, but there is no telling what could happen in the future. Competition is always great.
When I am using a machine that has limited resources, I use something lightweight. I find FVWM2 and fluxbox great for those times.
I wonder if there are any leightweight fan(atic)s in here? Using evilwm, papuawm or something like that?

KDE 3 is the best in my opinion. Im waiting for the new version with Anti Alliased fonts. The screen shots for it are really nice IMO. I think the pics are on there main webpage. Really neat software.

2nd place goes to Gnome 2. I usualy install that with Red Hat and KDE with Mandrake. Just seems to go together.

You can do Anti Aliased fonts without the wait for the next KDE. XFT2/Fontconfig will provide these, or if you're really daring, the latest XFree86 cvs has it. I don't have any websites on me, but should be easy to find.

Well I usually use several wms, depending on my mood.
Right now fluxbox rocks my boat, but KDE 3.1 is schweet indeed...
