I tried to make a film in xvid in linux and the quality was very inferior of that I made in windows? I the same find stranger for the fact of codec to be! e the FPS tax also was very lesser! What it can be occurring?

software used in linux!

dvd::rip
xvid core 0.9
lame 3.92
22fps

Software used in windows
DVD2AVI (create project)
Virtualdub
Nandub
Lame 3.92
40fps

linux Mandrake 9.0 kernel 2.4.19 smp
Windows XP sp1

Hardware configuration
Asus a7m266D / 2 Atlhon XP 1700 / 512 DDR / Geforce II mx 400 / DVD lg 16X

It forgives me for my English! I used the translator of the altavista! I am not good in English!

Hey dude.
I think framerate is definitively reason of difference of quality in both cases.

Please try mencoder and acidrip. The quality of mencoder und ffmpegs libavcodec is supperior to xvid in most cases and it is faster than the above stated. xvid encoding in mencoder should be possible too. transcode et al are known to be slow ...

with mencoder I get arround 30 fps dvd -> "divx" @ 640x288 with an 1,1 Ghz duron and 512Mb sdram.

I guess you are using avisynth-frameserving in win.

Also it is possible to do "Off-DVD"-ripping no ripping of the whole dvd to disk is needed.
