some version of Nero came with a trial mp3pro encoder, but it wasn't super impressive compared to like vorbis or RA8

I had a double take while re-reading the thread and wasnt sure which he was talking about :O
since codec = compressor decompressor I guess theres no way to know for sure

I guess a filter was installed with the encoder, funny thing is if I playback those files in wmp 6.4 or bsplayer its all messed, but it works in wmp 9
must have something to do with wm9 not using directshow as much
