Hi
Okay my videos look great, but the sound still kinda sucks. What I would like to know is, can I input a command line in Besweet GUI that GKnot will recognize and use? Like a saved alt preset that is selectable when I use GK. What I want to use is, CBR MP3 128Khz, and a lowpass filter around 19Khz. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions to try. Right now I have 128 and 160 Khz VBR MP3 as only selectable presets. Thanx in advance for any advice or Ideas.

In what sense does your current sound suck? Many objective analyses have shown ABR 128 and 160 to be superior to CBR 128 and 160, indeed even theory shows this to be true. Also, a 19kHz lowpass at 128kbit/s CBR mp3 is way too high. Something around 15.5-16.1kHz is recommended. Keep in mind, at roughly 128kbit/s, going above 16kHz is stretching the 'rubber band' of bits far too thin.

Actually --alt-preset 128 with Lame 3.92 uses a 17.5 lowpass.
You can test your hearing cutoff, to see if you really hear a difference. Here is a link: http://ff123.net/sweep.html

It's not about where your hearing cutoff is. It's about how thinly do you want the bits stretched. It doesn't matter if he can hear up to 22kHz. With only 128kbit per second, it's simply not worth worrying about the > 16kHz frequencies. The second you start encoding them, the perceptible quality difference will actually be negative as the rest of the spectrum will have less bits, and arguably with these few bits, it's the <16kHz frequencies that matter most.

I agree that a 16k lowpass would be fine for film. I use 19.5k for music with 320 kb/s max VBR MP3. ABR and VBR mp3 are both problems in an AVI container though, and would like A CBR mp3 preset. Right now, the only way I can get CBR is recompress in VDub. The max value my setup will allow in VDub is 64 kb/s at 24KHz. Even using 200% volume setting, there is a substantial dynamic loss. When I add wav header to mp3 and mux with Nandub, films play fine until I try to fast forward with Zoom, BS, and Divx players, all 3 players crash. I'm sure it's probly a set up problem in my system. Still a CBR preset, seems like the best solution till I can get a whole lot better at using Ogg, or AAC sound.

I know JohnMK, that why I stick to the --alt-presets when I use MP3.;)

Ok, I thought I'd sneak up on this one from behind, so here's my latest attempt. Opened Besweet GUI and played with lame2 settings. CBR mp3 160kb/s 16khz lowpass. Set this as lame default. Set Besweet up with Wav-mp3 output AC3 in. resulting audio file broke up badly during playback. Used plain old mp3 out. Command line shows lowpass is there, besweet log file does not. Resulting 160kb/s CBR mp3 plays fine. Playback in WMP and Winamp confirm bitrate.

Here's the question. Is there a way to make this an alt preset recognized in GKnot, or just do it seperate and final mux with video? Yes, I'm really lazy, and I want to help a couple friends set up their systems to encode films. Trying to make this as easy as possible for others.

Now What?

After converting AC3 to CBR MP3 I set GKnot to do a final mux. The resulting AVI crashes all 3 of my players when I try to scroll through movie. I opened it in VDub and got the VBR Warning. I read in one of the forums for Vdub that it does not support lame or radium hack for fraunhofer. Does anybody know what it does support? I'm using version 14.13 of VDub, is this a bug or something?
