I tried to make an XCD but failed...

My files' total size is 795MB but when I make the image and try to burn it with Nero I get 910MB and i can't burn it..Is there something I have to now??

I am using m2cdmgui15...My files are 1 avi + sub's...

Thanks,
MoonWalker

MoonWalker,

are you just kidding, or did it really take you until NOW to come to Mode2CD's ... :)

If you get 910 MB out of 795, then there is something wrong. The difference gives me the impression of the additional overhead for mode1 error protection, but I'm not an expert at all with this stuff.
Anyway, there are so many ways to burn XCD's...
Personally, I have only tried one single way, and that one has not failed once in countless tries:
create *.bin -> mount with DaemonTools -> perform a "CD-to-CD" copy

Others may prefer other methods, but this one for sure is fool-proof.

EDITEDITEDIT

Your video file is AVI? That's a very bad idea! See, the topmost level of error-protection is gone with Mode2CD's.
Not a problem with e.g. OGG(OGM), in worst case, you might get some corrupted frames.
But any AVI file may become unplayable in case of CD scratches!

Have you been walking on the moon recently?

Seems you are making something wrong, such as adding the movie as Mode 1 or directly loading the image file into an ISO-9660 project in Nero, both will report 900 MB as the required space for burning, which is wrong of course.

Foolproof guide to burn movies as Mode 2:

Add your movie files (AVI, OGM etc) with the "Add Media Files" button on Mode2 CD Maker GUI 1.5 (NOT "Add Files"!!!) Keep sure the movie shows itself as bold in the file list. If that's not the case, toggle to Mode 2 with the appropiate button ("Set/unset Form2").

Add your subtitle files and/or players/drivers/photos etc with the "Add Files" button. NOTE: if you add your subtitles with "Add Media Files", they won't work at all. They MUST NOT be in bold (i.e. they need to be burned as Mode 1).

Choose a name and make the image.

Load Nero, choose File/Burn Image, load your newly made image and burn as Mode 2. You can use other methods too, such as mounting it with Daemon Tools and making a CD copy etc.

Install the XCD filter and watch your Movie!

That's all. It should work fine this way.

Hi DeXT,

Something wrong with keeping long file names in the new 1.5 GUI? I've tried different ISO levels and they always revert back to 8.3 format. Just curious.

Hi Mat!

Strange, I tried all options (ASCII, ISO Level 1 & 2) and everything worked fine. Are you sure you are using Mode2 CD Maker 1.5 along with the new GUI (ant not an older version)? Just because the old -l and -a options are now active by default and the GUI no longer uses them, so if you use, say m2cdm 1.4 with the new GUI you always will get short file names.

Good to see you alive and kicking again DeXT;)

I verified I'm running the latest mode2cdmaker 1.42 and the GUI is indeed 1.5. Seems very odd since long file names should be the default. The only other two options I have selected in the GUI are "Single Track" and "View Prompt". Oh well, it's no big deal really; I can always use the CLI:D

Hmmmm... I'm afraid Mode2 CD Maker 1.4.2 is not the latest version... it's 1.5a instead. If you use 1.4.2 with the 1.5 GUI you will always get short file names because of the reason stated above...

Just get the 1.5 GUI package from my page which includes the 1.5a command line tool inside, and everything should work fine this time ;)

Hey, I was searching for you when I was ready to release 1.5 to the public (you are *MY* beta tester remember? ;) ) and couldn't find you, so I did my tests alone... which proved not to be enough since the release version had a serious bug on it (fixed on 1.5a).

Man I *CANNOT* do a proper release without you!!! Where the hell did you go?

Hope counting with you for 1.6, too ;)

@DeXT
Sorry man, I've dropped out of the scene somewhat due to work and very little free time. Unfortunately any time spent away from this board means your no longer on the cutting/bleeding edge of software builds, so I'm a bit behind and am trying to play catch-up lately;)

Thx for the kind words, I'm more than happy to help you test the new builds. I have a few new drives that we can torture test when your ready. You can ping me on ICQ, PM me here or just send me an email if you like( you still have my addy?). Keep up the great work man!
