Hi, I went through search because I wanted to backup a movie that spans across 2 disks. Noted that the answer is in the Q&A. So I followed the instrucations, using DVD2SVCD and ripped the 2 disks. Then copied the VOBs from the second disk into the same dir as where I had the VOBs for the 1st disk.
Went through DVD2SVCD opened the IFO file, the lenght showed the incorrect time, I just assumed that the IFO only have info for the first disk so I continued.
The conversion finished, I tested the bin/cue files and found from appx where the 2nd dvd starts the movie has garbabe all over it. Is it something I have done wrong?

Can you define garbage all over it?
Did you rename the second set of vobs as instructed ?

Play both sets of Vob's in WinDVD or PowerDVD to make sure there wasn't an issue during ripping or after copying them.
I do this all the time to make multiple episode VCD's out of TV shows and besides the occasional audio bug that is explained in the Q+A I have had no issues.
The incorrect time in the IFO is normal.
Make sure when you are ripping that the last chapter of the first set and the first chapter of the last set have a length to their chapters.
Make sure the numbers do not miss any and that all the VOB's are named the same except for that last number, but since it worked to some point I think you got that part right.
Did you happen to copy the VOB files across a network?

I have renamed the VOBs as instructed. And I have checked that they are numbered correctly.
I have NOT checked if the last and first chapter has a length. I will have to do that later. Just lent the DVDs out, I was hoping to get the SVCDs done so I didn't have to lend out my originals.. (don't u hate getting your DVDs back with finger prints and scratches all over them =/ )

The first half of the movie looks perfect. It is appx where the second movie starts it goes funny like that.
I renamed the vobs back to what they were and stuck them back in the 2nd temp directory. Played the VOB files (not the ifo) and it looked fine... though it looks like the audio starts before the video. I don't know if that was how it played on the dvd or not.

hmm I don't know if I asked any question or not =P but is that garbage screen familiar with other people?
A little pointing in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. The quality of the vidoe for the first half is great, I'd probly like to keep it at 3CD therefore I'd prefer to join them together and do them as 1 disk .. if I cant fix the problem them it might end up being 4 disk wich I don't think its necessary...
hmm the other way around it might be to do the mpv files for the 2 disks seperately then join them together and stick them into this working directory and use the RECOVER option to mux & cut the file .. hmm I dunno what I will need to join mpv .. i've used tmpgenc to play with mpg files before though ... If no one has any suggestion i'll come back with my results .. heh the long winded approach

I have never heard of or had that problem. You maybe forced to do them as sperate encodes. In fact I would suggest you try the second part alone and see if there are any problems when you do it that way.
