Hi guys,
I'm trying to find a better program for my flyvideo 3000 card. It came with software which is ok but it only supports raw avi capture and mpg-1 capture. I want to primarily b able to capture in mpeg-2 stereo with a scheduler that works!!. I've tryed flycap and vdub they both say video capture card in use by another application such as... blah blah but it's not i even closed the schedular to make sure. The only other 1 i came across was windvr which actually works except for a glitch which makes it invalid for me; for some reason it thinks the card can only do mono when it can do stereo cos i can do it the supplied software. O did i tell u i also tried powervcr but that just crashes upon opening :(
hoping to hear your helpful advice

I have similar issues, with VirtualDub, no matter what computer I run it on, with my WinFast A280/250 LE card (GeForce 4's) - you can kickstart your recording program by loading up another WDM video capture application.
I need to load iiVCR, click preview and then everything works proper.
It is really annoying me, so if anyone knows a more permanant fix, dont hesitate to post! Per usual, probably ME just being dumb.

Did anyone ever find a resolution to this problem?
I'm using FlyVideo 2000 with a P4PE running XP and also get the capture card in use error. I found a pointer to the btwincap WDM driver (http://btwincap.sourceforge.net/ v. 5.3.6-1) that were supposed to fix the problem, but after installing them, here's what I see:
1. In VirtualDub, File->Capture AVI... no longer gives me capture driver in use. I now see video playing in the window. But when I select Capture->Capture video, I get the error "No frames captured. Make sure your card is functioning correctly and that a valid video source is connected. You might also try turning off overlay, reducing the image size, or reducing the image depth to 24 or 16-bit." I tried all these suggestions, but they make no difference.
2. When I quit and restart VirtualDub, I'm back to the capture card in use error. Reinstalling the WDM drivers gets me back to step 1, which is a dead end.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated,
Warren

dude do what i did ditch the flyvideo IT SUX. Get a bt878 ( or ct878 i think it's called now) based card they are the better supported 1's i recommend a leadtek 2000xp, a pinnacle pctvpro or a prolink pixelview PV-BT878P+ have fun!
I'm very satisfied with my FlyVideo 3000. If you want to capture, use Fly2000TV (to bad it's shareware).
It's not as nice as VDub for capturing, but still the image and sound quality is far superiour to bt8x8 (I tested a lot, believe me).

well for overall effort i don't think it's not worth buying one of those cards i'd rather just get a digital 1 or a 1 of the bt8*8 cards

better?or just seems like has less noise(and blurier image)?
so far philips chips couldn't compare to bt8x8,but feel free to post some samples (capture of same thing with both cards) which would prove your words..........
i don't buy that philips capture chip will beat bt8x8....
btw. "sound quality"?
sound is captured by the sound card, and these chips have nothing to do with sound at all....the tuner on the card is providing the sound (if that's the setup...)

@all with that video card in use error
If you're using Win2k/XP, you can do the following:
1. Delete all subkeys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\VfWWrapper
2. Start VDub
3. File-->Capture Avi
4. Close VDub
5. Now the above key should have one subkey.
6. Right click on the above key, and select properties
7. Disable full control to everyone, even the system!
8. Restart
Now the Vfw Wrapper has to make a new list of the available capture devices every time.

The Philips SA7134 is far superior to the BT8x8. I've conferred my BT8x8 card a while ago, but I can upload some Philips samples.
The picture looks great. Much less noise, not blurrier, but sharper!
Concerning the sound quality: If the tuner is used as input, the sound quality depends more on the tuner than on the soundcard.

Fellaw:
I was very glad to see your post on how to fix the registry settings. I suspected that the problem was something like this. But when I look in my registry (running Win XP Pro sp 1) I don't have that key. I do have:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VfWWDM Mapper
it has a subkey named:
##?#pci#ven_1131&dev_7130&subsys_01385168&rev_01#4&3b90381f&0&70f0#{65e8773d-8f56-11d0-a3b9-00a0c9223196}#global
which looks a little odd. I tried setting the permissions of both of those, but no luck. Deleting the key does allow video to be displayed in VirtualDub after selecting AVI Capture..., but I'm still not able to actually start the capture process (same "No frames captured" error).
Please advise,
Warren
P.S. I too had read that the SA7134 is far superior to the bt8x8 chipset which is why I bought the card. Check out avsforum.com's htpc section.

There's another key, which is important, too(but far more known I suppose):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0019\Parameters
There should be a DWORD value called CapPreviewEnabled. If not, create it. Set it to 0 and reboot. In some cases, it's not the 0019 subkey. Look for one refering to the Flyvideo WDM capture.
There won't be any overlay possible now in VDub, but you can select any format you want(e.g. 768x576@YUY2) and should be able to capture. If the preview freezes after setting the format, just disable it and enable it again.
Those two registry settings drove me nuts when I didn't know them.

there was a test by some japanese guy comparing new philips and new conexant chipset........
philips was much blurier........
but if you can post screenshots of both bt8x8 and philips on same material,it would be appreciated...(like some VHS tape you captured or so....if already encoded, you can encode too but this time with source from philips etc.)....
(philips chips as used on asus cards were much worse than bt8x8....and it's still philips......have they added any sharpness control btw.?)
sure...if you cannot compare directly, any screenshots would be valuable.......

Ok, I'll upload a few samples as soon as I got my bt8x8 back.

I've followed the steps listed here http://www.shdon.com/view.php?doc=vid_faq but I'm still having problems. I can only do a capture once after rebooting, and then if I quit VirtualDub and run it again, I no longer get the "driver in use" error but instead get a "No frames captured" error when I stop the capture process.
I've tried using the drivers that came with my card, version 1.3.2040.0, also version 2046 from their web site (2051 no longer seems to be available -- anybody know what the issue is there?). I also tried the btwincap driver (http://btwincap.sourceforge.net/) (man, what a lot of reboots), but it's not clear whether it's meant for a SA7134 card. They list FlyVideo 2000S in the install list, but mine's a FlyVideo 2000 (no "S"). Also, I don't think running its installer had any effect since my device manager still says Animation Technologies 2046.
I know this is a registry problem, but I did very carefully follow the steps to install, and set the permissions for the "VfWWDM Mapper" key as recommended. I did notice however that the "deny" permissions for "CREATOR OWNER" wouldn't seem to stick. Perhaps this is the problem. Can someone explain in more detail what this hack is attempting to do?
Thanks!
Warren

The btwincap driver is for BT8x8 based cards ONLY!

I used exactly the same FAQ for getting my SA7134 card running! What the registry hack tries to do, is also mentioned there:
This forces the VfW-WDM-wrapper to rebuild its list of devices every time it is used, which fixes a situation where the system claims your capture device is already in use, when it clearly isn't.
Have you checked the capture format? And in which mode do you capture, vdub's internal or the compatibility one? Which status is returned in the status line at the bottom?

I finally got things to work. Back when I was trying this before, the FlyVideo driver version 20.51 with WHQL wasn't available on their web site for some reason, so I installed 20.46 instead. Tonight, I discovered that 20.53 without WHQL was available, tried that, and it worked. Finally!
