View Full Version : I have a question about Telecide, and its function.

I've searched a bit and couldn't find a direct answer to this.

If I use the Telecide function to match fields in a clip I have (that is interlaced/telecined) does it keep the matched fields (top and bottom) together and just duplicate a frame in the set it finds to keep the frame rate? (i.e. AtAb BtBb CtCb DtDb DtDb) or something similar (assuming it was NTSC 3:2 pulled film material). If I don't use Decimate to delete the extra frame in the set, for example.

That is correct. Telecide only recovers the frames and leaves duplicates. Decimate will remove identical (or very similar?) frames.

If you haven't already, I'd suggest you read the document that comes with decomb. It's very interesting reading.

N_F is quite right.

Strictly speaking, the *input* has no duplicated frame, but it has two duplicated fields. As a result of Telecide's action, this is converted to 4 progressive frames and one duplicate frame. The latter can be removed by Decimate. The Appendix to the Decomb help file should allow you to understand how the conversion produces a duplicate frame when it is applied to a 3:2 pulldown source.
