View Full Version : DVD Decrypter: Brute Force Cracking Failed

Replaced my Toshiba SD-1402 with Liteon/JLMS XJ-HD166S DVD-ROM drive which I immediately patched to be RPC-1 region free. Now DVD Decrypter aborts ripping titles which were ok with my Toshiba with error message 'Brute Force Cracking Failed! Reason: There were no vulnerable blocks.'
I noticed that if I change the 'DeCSSPlus Pattern Repeat Length' parameter from its default value 14 to 11, DVD Decrypter seems to get on with the ripping. What does the parameter do and what could explain the difference between the two DVD-ROM drives? I put the Toshiba drive in my secondary PC because I understood the LiteOn drive is better but now I'm getting second thoughts about that...

It should only be doing that if for some reason the io key exchange method fails.
Or, if the media region code doesnt match the drives. If you right click on the source combobox and choose - 'Region' -> 'Information', what does it say?
What region is the disc?
I expect that error only comes up on really small vob files yeah?

When I choose 'Region' followed by 'Information' I get the error message 'The Device failed to report its RPC state'. The disc is region 1 only and yes, the error only occurs while ripping a file of 226 KB. I don't suppose I actually even need the file, it's not part of the actual movie but I want to rip the entire contents of the disc using DVD Decrypter's file mode. Even though I did get rid of the error message it left me feeling uneasy about the results.
The region hack for the drive was not actually a cracked firmware, it's a program you use to patch any version of the firmware. It does enable playing of all DVD's and Nero InfoTool reports the drive as RPC-1. The drive does seem to be pretty fast and good at reading some discs that were unreadable with any other drive I've had so I really want to keep it!

Ah, so it was just a small vob file.
Changing the css settings was the correct thing to do. Dont worry about what it said, if there was a real problem, it would tell you about it. The decrypted file will be just fine.

I was having the same issue with a 600k VOB file, so are you saying that the error "brute force cracking failed" will still yield a usable VOB file, or should I change the CSS pattern repeat length option as well. Specifically I get the VOB error on the Office Space DVD, VTS_02_0.VOB 672kb
This is the first time i've ever even come across that error, thanks for the tight-ass app Lightning UK!

Also, I tried changing the pattern repeat setting to a few different values, but to no avail.

...and now I'm getting the same error message in the middle of a 550 MB file (last vob in 'Slayers: The Motion Picture'). When I click OK DVD Decrypter continues ripping the file, pretty confusing if decrypting 'failed'. Fiddling with the settings doesn't help with this disc.

It will just decrypt it using the previous key where possible.
You must have detect mastering errors turned on or else it should only search for a key at the start.
