View Full Version : Movie is too long

I am trying to make an (X)SVCD with just one chapter from a DVD. I did create the whole movie successfully using DVD2SVCD at the default bitrate setting, but fast scenes showed too many artifacts. Since I only needed one chapter (song sequence), I selected internal routines for the rip and that one chapter (of 14 minutes) and upped the bitrate by selecting 2 CD's of 740 Mbytes for 0-50 mins from the bitrate tab. My player supposedly works upto 4000 kbps (Sony 7700). I expected that I would get one CD image of 14 minutes.

Everything went fine except that I got two CD images of 50 minutes total(as opened in pinnacle studio) with the first 14 minutes containing the chapter and the last 36 minutes being blank. The CD image was at an average bit rate of only 800 kbps (290 Mbytes/50 minutes). The bb_mpeg files play fine upto the 14 minute mark after that blank but again have too many artifacts. The song scene has a lot of action in it so the result is poor.

I saw the other thread re: movie being too short, but I am intentially choosing that one chapter so perhaps the explanation is different.

System: Dual P-III 2 Gbyte Memory, 2X72 Gbyte disks, Win 2000 Svr

Use PowerDVD or WinDVD to verify your results. These are the most common used here.

Try playing the ripped VOB file(s) in PowerDVD or WinDVD to verify that the rip went correctly.

Play the mpv and the mp2 files in media player and check if the length is correct. If both are correct it may have been a muxing error.

Lastly is the rip looks ok then post your DVD2SVCD_log.txt file using cut and paste, not attach. When in doubt always post that file as the info there gives a good picture of what went wrong sometimes.

Thanks for your help Mark. I did load the ripped vob in windvd and it was the correct length. So I started the whole process again and the second time it worked correctly. My Sony 7700 did not play the XSVCD despite what VCDhelp said, so I got the Cyberhome 402 to play it. However, I have a different problem in that the quality (in terms of pixellation) is still bad at 4000kbps. Now I am going the miniDVD route and see if that works...
