View Full Version : How can I zoom in a 16:9 to make it appear same as 1.85 on a 4:3 tv

I have been resizing most of my 2.35 movies to 1.85 because 2.35 is harder to see on a 4:3 TV. It is zoomed out farther. I enjoy the closer view of the 1.85 resized movie, but the titles and scenes are sometimes cut off.

What I am wondering is there a way to leave the movie 2.35 but just have it zoom in 2x more(appear same as 1.85 with small bar at top and bottom of screen)when it is playedback. Then I could just zoom out to see the whole screen if I wanted to.

And if it is possible, would it affect bitrates and filesize?

I know of no way to do this using any encoder, but some DVD players have a Zoom function. I know my Apex does.
