I have a few questions, and comments here

Firstly, what are the differences between I-Author, vcdxbuild, and vcdimager?

VCDXBuild seems to work fine, But I-Author seems to have it's perks. The reason i ask is this,

I have a Stand Alone Pioneer DV-434 (i believe off the top of my head)
It works great cept for Subtitles, i've researched it and it looks like it can't do CVD or SVCD subtitles, so i use permenant subtitles (ugh).

I was wondering if vcdimager would help with this silly issue, using permenant subtitles i get this line, like a non-blinking cursor in the upper middle of my TV, now of course it goes away whenever a subtitle starts up, then after a little bit it reappears.

I've noticed this specially with The Sum Of All Fears, since it does have alot of 'dead space' in the movie. It's uhm quite annoying, and i am using beta 1c the (latest at this very minute) version.

Also, What is the differences between TMPGenc and CCE? I own both programs, yet I have not really found a definative guide or anything saying what makes CCE better ot TMPGenc better. I'm just told 'it is'. Which sucks, don't you think?

I guess my questions would be summed up as, what's the best tool to use none? VCDIMager? VCDXBuild? I-Author?

Should i use CCE or TMPGenc? is there any plus's or minus's of using either one? I found CCE's UI rather lacking (highly). beyond that is there any?

btw, waiting 5days till i can post stinks.

During those 5 days, you're supposed to find answers to questions like these on your own. Most if not all are answered either in the sticky, or in another topic (do a search). We don't make you wait 5 days to be mean, it's so you'll do your homework before asking questions.

Waiting 5 days is suppose to stop posts like yours since with just a little research you would have answered many of those questions. If you had used those 5 days to read the forum and search a bit I doubt you would have needed to ask one question.

I know for a fact that subtitle question about the blinking curser was answered by Bach not 3 or 4 days ago if that.

A couple of your questions haven't been covered in overwhelming detail so I will give a quick heads up on them.

1. If your player can't do switchable subs it can't do switchable subs. Pretty simple there.

2. I-Author has it's perks and it's weaknesses. However I-Author is limited to SVCD spec bitrate or below only. It won't do XSVCD's and it only puts out in Cif file so you need to convert it. I think you need it to do subs as well, but I don't do them so I am not sure.
Personally I always use VCDXBuild.

3. General Consensus is TMPG is better for Mpeg-1, CCE for Mpeg-2.

Also you should always have the latest version. Currently it's 1.10.1C.

If you are using DVD2SVCD why in the world do you care about the lack of UI in CCE?

Understandable, just a little frustrating because i did the research before i registered, so i had to wait...

As for CCE's lack of ui, you're right i am using DVD2SVCD it doesn't really matter, i've been using tmpg for over a year thought so i have a few problems getting used to not being able to watch the work in progress (dithered).

As for I-Author, thank you... I've not seen really anything mentioned why i should use VCDImager or VCDXBuild... I do know VCDXBuild works, but i always try and find something better.

As for CCE i'll try using CCE on my next round, and see if i can notice any difference.

Thanks.
