View Full Version : svcd with progressive scan 5 disk changer

I went looking for a 5 disk DVD changer that plays SVCD. I was told that they do not exist. I found that hard to believe so I went to vcdhelp.com, and found that some do exist, but it seems that they only play SVCD by accident, or only when converted by certain programs.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a progressive scan changer that is certain to work with SVCDs made with DVD2SVCD? Preferably one that goes to the next disk automatically, and preferably under $250.

I have searched the forum and found out how to make SVCDs that stand alone players will think are VCDs, but that won't help me with my extensive SVCD library that I already have.

Thanks

This isn't really a hardware help forum.

You have already looked where most people will send you to check out www.vcdhelp.com. You may also want to check out the forums at www.nerd-out.com .

Personally I know of no 5 disc changers, except that Apex announced their 5151 almost 6 months ago, but none have shown up for sale and I don't believe it's progressive scan either. Plus after Apex got sued they have removed VCD support from most of their players.

Hi Kevo2000,

I have been looking for just such a player. Here in the states, Best Buy has one, a Phillips Model: DVD793CH.

Here's hoping I haven't pissed off the mods somehow with this....

Hey, I just bought that player! plays all my svcds and vcds fine, doesnt auto advance to the next one, but I think there was a way to make it do that... (like hitting >> instead of play, or something. dont know for sure, just tested it and packed it up for xmas) It claims to be progressive scan via component outputs, but I have no hardware capable of testing that... Was $169.99 but I got it for around $130 (gota love discounts :) )

I have research for one for several months, finally I bought the Sony DVP-NC655P, progressive scan 5 disc DVD changer. My brother also bought one on my recommendation. Little more expensive than Philips but well worth it with Sony style and quality, plays all my SVCDs made with DVD2SVCD. Check the users reviews in VCDhelp.com

I picked up the Philips last night and am very satisfied with it. It plays everything except VCD's recorded on very cheap CD's, which my old RCA plays fine. VCD's on quality CD's play fine.

I was a little dissapointed to find that it does not automatically advance to and play the next disk. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to press two buttons on the remote. I might be willing to take it back if someone knows of one that does this (for under $200). How about the Sony mentioned above? WildHorse? Anyone?...

Sorry WildHorse, I can't seem to research something for months. When I want something, it seems like I need to get it right away. More power to you though.

Thanks again for the info.
