Why is it not possible to make the software players where you can change the audio tracks on a SVCD ??
I read before that it's because it is not possible, but....
I have made a "backup" of the movie "The Scorpion king" with audio1 the movie and audio2 the director comment.
When i play the svcd with WinDVD4 it plays the director track and when i use PowerDVDXP it plays the movie track.
How come ??? If that's possible, so it should be possible to make the software players able to choose the tracks and maybe also the subs...

Or is there an explanation for that ???

Thx

I know the reason and can answer exactly. But I'll wait for a week so that other "expert" has the chance to show his competence.

Why is it not possible to make the software players where you can change the audio tracks on a SVCD??The software player can surely change the audio tracks. But only in "Disk Mode", not in "File Mode". That is, if you play the correct authored SVCD while intert the disk into cd drive, you can. If you have copied the mpg file to hdd(or leave it on CD) but in software player "open" the mpg file, you get only 2nd track in WinDVD and 1st track in PowerDVD and no change possible. Solution: burn(VCDEasy) the mpg2 file on a cd and play it form dick. Or use VCDEasy to create a dick image (.bin/.cue) and load the image into "DaemonTools"(CD-Emulator) and then play it from the virtual cdrom drive.

Thanks
This is nice.
But what about selectable subtitles ??
I've made a svcd with selectable subs in the "True SVCD subtitles as specified by Philips" format, but it seems that they can't be selected.
Or what ? Any explanation for that ?
Thx

My post starting here:
But what about selectable subtitles??ATM there is no software player con display the SVCD subs. Perhaps the upcoming PowerDVD XXP 5/6, perhaps never. If any, only in disk mode, not in file mode.I've made a svcd with selectable subs in the "True SVCD subtitles as specified by Philips" formatOnly the DVD players from Pholips support the "SVCD style" subtitles, all other DVD players support, if any, "CVD style" subtitles. The Philips players have massive problems in SVCD-Playback. Search this forum you can see it. Almost only Philips players have problems.

Regarding the issue of switching audio tracks when in file mode: use sthsvcd (freeware, link should be on the board), it switches between multiple audio tracks without any problems.

use sthsvcd (freeware, link should be on the board)Nope, the only functional link in board is poited to a very, very old version of 1999, which was pointed out that not suitable for such thing by a forum use. He said that only the 2001 version should be able to do it. The make of this software has stoped the distribution and support(because we cannt find any info about it in the homepage of the company, thus no download link). Are you sure what you talked about and have tested it? Whare have you got the proper program?

I am not quite sure whom you refer to by "he" (maybe ompg in this thread: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37932&highlight=sthsvcd? But that thread was about selectable SVCD subs).
Anyway, the version I am using is the 1999 one referenced in an earlier post (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=31083&highlight=sthsvcd). It is probably obsolete by now, but it is freeware as stated by the readme and does its job - so I guess you could call it "the proper program" :). Yes, it does switch between multiple audio tracks even if you are in file mode (I only tested this with standard-compliant streams).
