I thought it'd be a good idea to share some important and interesting links regarding video editing/encoding/decoding.
So here I go:
- The best player (imho) is MPlayer (http://www.mplayerhq.hu). Go and get it !!!
- A very nice tool for editing/muxing/encoding AVIs is AVIdemux by mean (http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/). Thanks mean :)
- Transcode (http://www.theorie.physik.uni-goettingen.de/~ostreich/transcode/) is a powerful (and complex) CLI tool. It can do (almost) everything !
- dvd::rip (http://www.exit1.org/dvdrip/) is a GUI for transcode, that gives access for the most important settings.
-------- following links are for Debian-users only --------
- Christian Marillat is a maintainer for many (at least all I mentioned above) video-related packages for debian. Check out his (and other's) packages for stable (woody) (http://marillat.free.fr/dists/stable/main/binary-i386/index.html) and unstable (sid) (http://marillat.free.fr/dists/unstable/main/binary-i386/index.html).
I hope others will post some interesting links, as they are the best way to get necessary information about video related stuff on linux.
Have fun...
