I'm trying to rip lord of the rings extended version (disc 2) to 3 cd's. I want at least 640x320 res but would like 704x352 (unless there is no diff and should stick with 640).

Problem is that I don't know what to keep the bits/(Pixel*Frame) at or around for a quality encode. I'm getting numbers like 39 and 44 but keeping my compression above 60%.

Can anyone tell me what I should be aiming for, for this value?

:confused:

Hi-

As far as I know, all versions of the film are 2.35:1, so why are you trying for 640x320, or 704x352? Shouldn't they be 640x272, or 704x304 or something like that? Are you cutting into the sides for some reason, or was it a typo, or am I wrong about your version being 2.35:1, or do you just like bad AR:)? By having the 2.35:1 resolutions, your numbers should come up, too.

And, once you've done a compression test, you can safely ignore the b/p*f value. Use b/p*f as an ESTIMATE prior to your first compress test. After that, only use the LOAD % returned by the test.

Think of it this way: b/p*f is a MODEL. LOAD % is a MEASUREMENT.

I actually did this one too a week ago or so. Though I used 2 CDs, but I'm perfectly happy with the quality. Unless you want the ac3 sound (I used ogg), I'd suggest you consider using 2 CDs.

@N-F
Any chance you could post you .avs (if you still have it) as LoTR extended seems to be a popular setting discussion and are interested to compare the various avs's that have been posted.

Thanks.

Well, there's definately nothing special about it (I'm not one of those that throw in a lot of different filters for DVDs), but I'll see if I still have it around.
