Howdy, I got SKY Digital and I want to get a PCI DVB-S card, better than my current way of capturing, samples at www.btinternet.com/~weatherjack/ (weatherjack?? - i dunno, but atleast it is fast space!)
I will OBVIOUSLY need a DVB-S card but what I am not sure on and scoured the web and cant find much about (the whole scene actually) is Common Interface PCI cards. I want to know if I get a common interface PCI adaptor, will it be able to read my current SKY Digital Viewing card to descramble the digital-signal.
... if you know what I mean.

there are no stand alone pci cards with common interface. the ci-slot is on (some, mostly expensive) dvb-s cards. you also need a ca-module (for the descrambling) with support for the encryption of sky digital.
you have to plug the ca-module in the ci-slot and the key card in the ca-module and then you should be able to see your program.
unfortunatly i know noting about sky digital so i dont know if there are compatible ca-modules for you.

I know you cant (dont think) get DVB-S cards with CIs built in, just needed to know how much I would have to spend on how ever many items.
i was looking at http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2075734578
seemed pretty good for the price. can some buff really check this over and tell me what I can do with this card because I cant find anything about it
and thanks for the help Dolermite, it was the thought of being able to use your little program that has inspired me:), but... was I supposed to have known that searching happysat would bring me all the relavent info:)
ideally, i dont want to actually spend anymore money than that necessary on the DVB-S card, but do those 'multidec...' programs work, and if so...
... what type of encryption does SKY Digital use, save me searching forever

1.SKY Digital uses VideoGuard.
2.There are no cams for VideoGuard.
3.The card and the digibox are married. You can't use your card on another digibox (well, most people can't).
4.You can watch Sky only on a digibox.

sky digital uses videoguard ii if im correct, and if you *really* have to descramble chans, your best bet (if its possible) is to use powervu and know where to point a sat at....
oh and ofcom are looking into getting sky to allow cams, instead of integrating them.... they prolly wont get it done due to pircay :)

That weatherjack sample...wow! In my wildest dreams I don't imagine I'll ever get that kind of quality from a TVcap. I mean, you could encode a DVD from that SBC source! I envy you, man.
