well if that subject made no sense to you, then im wondering about converting from dvd to divx with v-dub...um simply becuase im familiar with this program, i mean, if you have a better program to go from vob/d2v(dvd2avi) to divx then id like to know, but i was wondering if its possible to get v-dub to recognize vobs or d2v's, is the a plugin or anything...thanks

There is a plug-in, of sorts. AviSynth, and the mpeg2dec plug-in for AviSynth will treat .d2v project video as if it were an .avi file.
Gordian Knot, an extremely popular DVD -> DivX encoding suite, uses this process with Virtual Dub. Click on Doom9's Gordian Knot for DivX 5 guide (http://www.doom9.org/gknot-main3.htm) for more information.

I can't make a recommendation on the mpeg2dec plugin for AviSynth, as I've always used the one included with the Gknot suite. I recall that the one that comes with Gknot must use .d2v files created by DVD2AVI 1.76. The format of .d2v files from other releseases are not valid.

Or get the new VirtualDubMod that can open vobs directly.

Well, had I paid attention to modified versions of Vdub (other than Nandub) I could have given bungholio a more appropriate answer. Thanks (again) Hakko!
And, to answer his most recent question ... the answer is in the opening post of a thread right here in the Vdub forum:

You can use DVD2AVI to demux .ac3 sound streams, transcode them to .mp3 using BeSweet, and then mux them with the encoded video using Nandub.
You can read Doom9's collection of Vdub/Nandub procedures in this guide (http://www.doom9.org/virtualdub_procedures.htm).
You could, of course, try Gordian Knot again, which would operate BeSweet, Vdub, and Nandub for you. Even though the encoding suite can be complicated and intimidating, it will be a lot easier and faster than attempting your own manual process.
