Hi All,

I am at my wits end and cannot seem to find the solution to this problem...

I wanted to create a backup of my MONTY PYTHON: HOLY GRAIL (Special Edition) discs. The first disc is greater than 4.38Gig, hence I decided to use Derrow's tutorial on how to split a DVD-9 to 2 DVD+R's.

I followed the directions as given in the guides and I ended up with the split movie in two dirs(the movie is in the first title). It also copied the VIDEO_TS.IFO, BUP and VOB and also created/copied the right VTS_01_0.IFO, VOB and BUP.

I went thru the tutorial and checked the chapter counts in the VTS_01_0.IFO and it has been fixed by IfoEdit (the entire movie spans 28 chapters and now the first disc has 17 chapters and the second has 11).

As per the tutorial, I fixed the VIDEO_TS.IFO file in the right location(on disc one) to reflect the 17 chapters instead of the 28 chapters.

Now as per the tutorial, I should be all set, right?

When I try to play the movie in IfoEdit, it starts out by correctly showing the FBI Warning (the blue warning and the red warning -- which by the way reside on the VIDEO_TS.VOB) and then shows me the dreaded "Illegal Navigation pointer" message!!!

Please please please someone help me...I am sure I am doing something wrong and it is a simple fix, but I cannot seem to figure what the problem is!!!

BTW, I have also read the post on the Illegal Navigation problem on movies like MISS CONGENIALITY and that is not the case on the HOLY GRAIL disc...

HELP!!! I will be happy to send and files that someone may need to help me with this problem...

Thanks in advance...

Rajiv

What other VOB's are on the disc? If you play the original ripped DVD with all of the files on the DVD in IfoEdit, see all the FBI stuff, get to the Root Menu and play the movie, see the movie play and then exit the player, which titles (VOB's) does the little pop-up box tell you were played? Did you include these on the split DVD's. I usually do the above after I remove all the Pre commands except for 1 and edit it to jump to title 1 (usually) and root while the second DVD's pre command gets changed to just jumping to title 1 (usually). Another weird thing I found with illegal navigation (with Warner Bros stuff) was that they would play fine in IfoEdit, fine with Power DVD or WinDVD but once burned, the navigation error. So, I made an ISO image of the files to be burnt, used Nero to burn the DVD's using the ISO images and it worked! Can't explain that one very easily.

rapjp2001,

I see you registered in November. Is this your first split? I going to take a stab at your problem. If you didn't do the split and watched the original DVD from insert to movie play, I assume after the FBI warnings, the next screen you'll see is your main menu. You said that your movie resides in vts_01. If that the case, you need to copy vts_01_0.vob to both disks as the menu resides in vts_01_0.vob.

Now, I could be wrong as you should've got a "file not found" message but just check to see if vts_01_0.vob or your *0.vob for your movie is present.
