@Koepi
Hi
On your web page, you said that GMC was buggy. Is it GMC encoding or GMC decoding? I made a test with GMC enabled (2-pass) and worked fine with ffdshow, but crashed with XviD. Also, using Hinted MV still crash on both pass.
Could you please explain more the problems with that build?
I made "The Matrix" (1 CD) with the "last" lastest build with GMC, QPEL and 4 b-f. The quality is so great it's like DVD!!! XviD is now better than DIVX 5.0.2 Pro. Keep the good work guys :)

Something in GMC still isn't right. You're warned from using it, you may have compatibility problems with future versions of XviD.

I know it's alpha :). But since ffdshow can read it now I don't know why I shouldn't use it. :D
The Matrix decoded with ffdshow is ok. The same movie decoded by XviD shows a lot of blocks where GMC is supposed to be used. I'll reencode them whitout GMC.

Sirber,why you have to allways start your own tread then you post somenthing? All this stuff is discussed in other treads but you allways start your own tread. Everytime new build is realeased you start your own GMC of QPel tread!

How about asking about bframes quant offset for starters? ;)
But seriously, try to blend in here sirber, I'm glad someone else spoke up this time, I didn't want to be the evil guy[tm] again :).

Just to keep upto date I just did a cvs checkout & put it up on my site.

The DShow is there too, either its broken or yuv or my graphics card here is ;) let me know how you get on. :)
Cheers,

@The Evil Guy [tm]: ;) :D if it actually works:

Thanks for the new build, Nic, it'll last only 5 hours until i can test if it works (currently encoding...).
Since .dlls aren't sent binary (I get them shown as text in the browser) from your server, can you verify it's 276kb big?
Best regards

You ment .ax I believe? But can you test this again pls? I've added: AddType application/octet-stream .ax .dll to the Apache-config (just for you :)).

@everyone
I start a new tread because it's easier to find information. The goal of a forum is not to have 2 tread but a lot to discuss on different subject.

I dont know why but since that b-frame offset parameter has been added in the codec,
i have been suffering from random PC freezes .
Note that i have been using Xvid with -
motion search presion set to 5
quant H.263
1 pass quality 93%
b-frame set to 2,200,100
and no additional options .
i have tested again with b-frame disabled but alas it froze again.
this assures that not b-frame but something else caused the problem .
I have tested both 21-11-2002 and 25-11-2002 builds yet the same result.
maybe i struck a bug , but i wonder why i have'nt seen it mentioned .
BTW i have Athlon XP1800+ , Via chipset and i was using Vdubmod's latest version.
The problem is surely not with VdubMod cos i tested Nic's 28-10-2002 build and it works way too fine.

It's maybe my optimizations.
Try Nic's newest build from today and see if the crashing behaviour still persists.

Reason for random PC freeze can be faulty CPU. I had lots of random freezes earlier this year but now they gone after i bought new CPU.
It's really tricky problem and it almost drived me crazy. If your PC totally freezes in my own experiences it's hardware problem not software. Example good way to test this is to play DVD nonstop 24h.

Or run 3DMark 2001 for 4 hours... :)

@Nic
All b-frames options (except "b-frames offset") are inactive and I guess b-frames do not work with your latest 25/11/02 build.

@Koepi:
Thanks for the 25112002 build. What did you #define (if anything) in order to have the b-frame textboxes activated? Yesterday I just went in and manually activated them. It worked, but there must be a #define that I missed.
Thanks

Alrighty so , i tried to encode with the latest devel-builds (3-12-2002) and it freezes all over again .
The problem comes from both Koepi and Nic's builds so probably something in the code is causing the problem .
I sincerely cant understand whats causing the problem :confused:
i have tried encoding with almost every setting in the XVID codec , yet everytime i try it i end up in a freeze :(
I wanted to address the issue , cos i dunno why but its occuring only with me :scared:
I tried encoding with a lot of other codecs and they run just fine .
I'd be grateful if someone wud give me a link to an XVID build of before 18-11-2002 .
I have a lot of stuff captured on my HD waiting to be encoded and i wud certainly like to use BF .

But as i mentioned , i need a build with B-frames .

@Stan
Try running pi-fast, prime or something else with loop that loads your cpu heavily (3DMark is not heavy enough).
I have XP1900 and Via266A chipset and I havent had any problems with any recent b-frame build. At the moment I have already made 3-4 encodes with 3.12 build using b-frames without any problems.

drop me pm where you want to send you any of them.I have 16/11 and 9/11.Cant say if they have bframes enabled as I am doing an encode right now and cant install them to check.

Thanks to two fellow forum members .
I had two copies of xvid binaries by yesterday night 9-11 and 16-11 .
These were the ones that had been previously approved be me as being stable (as far as my encoding needs are concerned ) .
But i ran into quicksand when these two froze as well .
This assured me that something wrong was going on inside the box sitting infront of me.
And it just struck me that i had manipulated my bios setting right around the time when these freezings started .
Voila all my problems were solved :)
I reset the bios and now everything runs as smooth as it used to be .

Some monthes ago, I had problems with encoding crashing ONLY when using some XviD builds, and ALWAYS involoving the same asm code. After investigating and bothering XviD developpers for days, I discvered that the crash was caused by a deficient RAM module which had temperature problems.
It is not because the crash occurs only when using XviD that you must conclude to a software problem. Good luck anyway ;)
