If an Avi is converted to MPEG2 & then authored with ifo edit to create dvd files will this play on DVD standalone players if its on a normal cdr?

the reason I ask is because I am aware that miniDVD will not play on most standalone players because of the cdr reader speed & high bitrate of the stream but my file is a normal mpeg2 file created with avi2svcd at quite a low bitrate so its not really a mini dvd is it?

i thought this way the player may be tricked into thinking its a dvd???

it does play on my player & displays DVD on the onscreen display but i wanted to know if it will play on other players

any feedback would be much appreciated

they play on my apex 600 & 660... under 5000 bitrate.

Question, how do u get the vob files down to 700 mb or less to fit onto a cdr?

Thx,

you just convert an svcd file to a vob with ifoedit

but after further checks my dvd player only recognises them about 1 in 4 times i try to play them so although it seemed a good idea because of the sound capabilities & menus it now seems like a waste of time:(

This is called miniDVD. It was a great hope a couple of years ago, but was abandoned with the onset of SVCD. There are very, very few players that support miniDVD -- I noticed that cap4000 says it works on his Apex 660, I can guarantee you it doesn't work on mine.

The problem is that the player recognizes CDs when they are inserted and most often uses a different laser -- so it's hard to "fool" it into thinking you inserted a DVD.

basically the 600 & 660 apex's will play non-compliante vcd's and svcd's up to 5000 bit rate, any mpeg1 or 2. It sees the vob's on cdr as vcd mpeg. It was a long time ago when i used them this way (now dvd-r). I did play raw vobs from a heavy metal 2 movie. They were already small enough (interviews). I am not sure but i might have demuxed and converted the 48 khz audio to 44.1 than remuxed back...I know even some of the lower bitrate vobs this way won't play in most machines because for regular vcd it can't be vbr, but the apex's will play vcd's with vbr mpeg1/2. For example Video recorded on the pioneer DVR-7000 at it's lowest setting gives you a 352x240 48khz vbr recording close to bitrate of vcd. Rip that vro to computer, convert to vob. demux- converte audio to 44.1 then remuxe back to vob or mpeg then direct to cdr or make an non-compliant vcd with nero. The end product plays back perfect in both my apex's, but not in my pioneer 7000, as it is non-compliant and vbr recorded mpeg1. The above worked for me for any vob as long as it does not exceed 5000 bitrate...
