I have been buying cdr from newegg and another place and have been reading in some old posts on the internet that generic mfg's like prodisc and CMC, who have been making the discs I have bought, use cheap materials and will not hold up over a long period of time. I wonder how long these cheap discs will hold up. I was only paying 14-18 dollars per hundred, so it was cost effective to use these with my old coaster making HP 8100i 4x.

Now I have a new Lite ON that burns up to 40x, but I have been burning at 32x to be on the safe side. All sxvcd look great so far, but I dont want to have totally useless media five or ten years down the road. I keep all cdrs in sleeves religiously.

What I need to know is there truth that Mitsui and Taiyo Yuden are the best in cdr out there and worth double to triple what I am paying now for media? Where is the cheapest place to catch these if there is a big difference?

What is the maximum I should be burning at? I have been burning at 32x with no problems yet, but dont want quality to decrease.
