TMPGenc guide here says

"Frame rate is 23.976fps for NTSC titles (unless you've been told to use otherwise earlier in the guide), PAL is 25.00fps."

If the source vob is 29.9 frame rate NTSC, can I choose 29.9 fps in TMPGenc setting?

Here is what I did. Using SmartRip, I ripped Independence Day and created m2v and ac3 files. Then using DVD2AVI I created d2v file which I transferred to TMPGenc to encode.

I'm from the PAL Territory but from what I've heard with NTSC DVDs is that you'll have a lot less problems encoding at 29.9.

if you are forcing film, you'll want to choose 23.976, if you are keeping the 29.97fps then you should set that in tmpgenc

Thanks for your info. I was trying 29.9 just yesterday. It took forever...like 28 hours or something like that for 2 1/2 hr long movie.

So from what I read in the forum, I guess 23.375 fps is faster...Am I right?

if the title is mostly film then yes 'force film' is faster (23.976)

for the stuff that was origionally film source but was telecined poorly (can cover a range of meanings of poorly) then you would have to inverse telecine to 23.976 which is actually slower.

for full ntsc ( older tv shows and many new ones) just leave it at 29.97

i would assume that title would take to force film fine but best to check per the guides...the guides cover all the above very well

oh... and for mpeg1 (vcd)you can just leave it 23.976 frames per second.. for mpeg2 (svcd) tmpgenc will add pulldown flags (pick svcd film template)
