View Full Version : Simplest reauthor method?

I have spent about 3 weeks reading guides and posts and have had great success backing up my DVD's that I can rip down below 4.37 GB. Just started to Encode some of the longer ones. Stripped the movie down then followed the robshot method to use CCE. I got the AC3 audio file and the m2v video file. What is the simplest way of putting the two back togeter, I don't care about menu's and extras, all I am trying to do is bring the main movie back together with the DD 5.1 sound track. Any help or input would be greatly appreciated.
 :) :)

IMO, Maestro, hands down. And, in conjunction with AC3 Delay Corrector, it kicks ass when it comes to getting perfect sync.

how does one use this in Maestro? the ac3 corrector I mean!
I agree to use maestro for the authoring tool. I like spruceup, but then you have to mess with correcting the aspect ratio with ifoedit.

tumbar, have a gander at my post here and what I meant will be more apparent (hopefully):

Try ifoedit 0.95, it will take the video & audio stream you have & author ok.

Ah! But what good does a backup do you if it does not contain all the data? Plus, you screw up the original and your backup won't have everything you had before. :D

hmm, if you reencode, does it really contain all the data :) and of course, the playing is done with the copy and original stays in a safe :D
ps. I was having you on...

But keeping the extras = lower bitrate for movie. And the movie is what it is all about. So you are the butcher :P

I reduce the extras before reducing the movie. Besides... is the movie really all it's about? I thought it was about duplicating the DVD-9 experience on a DVD-5. Besides, my eyes suck. I think it still looks good. :D

For me it's about having a great quality copy that won't degrade over time =) The extras (I'm not including commentary in this) are usually junk...trailers, those "making of" puff pieces which screen at 11:30 at night here, etc. Fairly uninteresting stuff which deserves only one viewing.
I don't think I can tell the difference in quality either, but might be able to in future with a decent tv =)

By the time I have a new TV in which I can tell the difference, I'll be tired of the DVD format anyway and will be moving on to whatever new is out. No matter what you do, the fact is that everything we do today will be considered crappy looking in the future. It's just a fact. It WILL happen. It still didn't stop me from dubbing tapes back in the 80's and 90's...it doesn't stop me making DVD's now...and it won't stop me in the future when I think these DVD's look like crap when compared to whatever new HD format has become as ubiquitous as DVD is now. hehe :)

actually you can lower the bitrate conciderably (CCE) before you even notice something changed. even using 120" screen (which is still my wet dream...)
so maybe it is more like lazyness or the fact that most of the extra bullshit put to disk isn't just worth of using the little freetime available. (mostly actors shining others, telling how excellent the other actors are and so on. (nobody tells the truth) of course there are those must have extra's... maybe on those the whole disk is backupped as whole. yes, extras reencoded too... and most of PAL stuff removed: Urdu audio track is my favourite...

There is somebody out there who also does exact duplicates :)
After reading most of the posts here I was beginning to wonder.
Now if I could just figure out that pesky subtitle thing.
