Hi all..
Just curious if anyone else had run into this. I just purchased DVD split .5. Looked like a nice little utiltiy. I dectrypted a full movie (Grease) to a directory. It was about 5.5 gigs. I used DVD split to split to 2 seperate directories(sticky with the defualts). All looked fine. When I try to burn either disk to the DVD-R Nero tells me I am missing files, and may not be compatible with DVD player. I ignored and burned, and of course the DVD does not work. According to the guide, I did not see any extra steps needed to do this. I have been able to Decrypt, and burn single DVD's just fine.
I am using Windows XP Pro, latest releases, and Pioneer A04 DVD-R Burner on firewire. Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks,
flanman

The problems I had is where DVDSPLIT 0.5 copies all the files to DISC1 whereas DISC2 is just fine.

I never even tried disc two as disc one failed. So you were saying that disc 2 played fine, but not disk one. Do you know which files were missing form disk one?

or provide a list of files that were burnt to the disc and someone here can work out which files are missing.

Ok.. I used DVD split. I extraced the whole DVD (Grease) to a folder with DVD Decrypter. Then I used DVd split to split just the movie to 2 DVD's. I did not receive any errors when Splititng. When I try to burn Disk one, same thing, Nero says DVD will not be playable. I have not attempted to burn disk 2 yet, until I get Disk 1 taken care of.
Here is the file list afte splitting:
Disk 1:
VIDEO_TS.VOB
VTS_01_0.VOB
VTS_03_0.VOB
VTS_03_1.VOB
VTS_03_2.VOB
VTS_03_3.VOB
VTS_03_4.VOB
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_03_0.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_03_0.IFO
DISK 2
VIDEO_TS.VOB
VTS_01_0.VOB
VTS_03_0.VOB
VTS_03_1.VOB
VTS_03_2.VOB
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_03_0.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_03_0.IFO
Thanks for any help

umm, VTS2 is missing, i think you'll have to put in at least dummy files for the disc to work properly, altho im not completely sure.

I just got DVD Split .6 and then burned with DVD Burn and also have an unusable disc (in standalone only, the disc plays fine in PowerDVD). I don't know the first thing about VTS and VOB and such, thus the point of getting DVD Split in the first place :D
But, here are my discs:

VIDEO_TS.IFO
VIDEO_TS.VOB
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_0.VOB
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_01_4.VOB
Disc 2
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VIDEO_TS.VOB
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_0.VOB
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_02_0.BUP
VTS_02_0.IFO
VTS_02_0.VOB
VTS_02_1.VOB
VTS_02_2.VOB
VTS_03_0.BUP
VTS_03_0.IFO
VTS_03_0.VOB
VTS_03_1.VOB
VTS_04_0.BUP
VTS_04_0.IFO
VTS_04_0.VOB
VTS_04_1.VOB
If anyone could shed some light on how to get this to play in my DVD player? I also made a disc image (burned it with RecordNow Max), but that ended with the same unusable disc. I've done dozens of discs before this using the same media and player and have never had the player reject it as 'unreadable'.

I agree. I the app is advertised as split and burn. I have sent an email to derrow from his site, but have not heard back yet. This would be a great tool if it worked properly.

So far I've only tried Dvdsplit out on Starwars Episode 2, and basically disk 1 is messed up but disk 2 is ok.
I am not able to create an image of disk 1 using Imagetools..it complains about some reallocation problem.

I was reading this thread:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=21021
It talks about the cell not having chapter information and how it doesn't split correctly. Since the layer change on my movie occurs in the middle of a chapter, would manually picking a chapter change rather than the layer change solve our problem? Or doesn't this have anything to do with it?

This is how I used dvdsplit 0.5 to get a working copy of Star wars
ep2 to play in my stand alone dvd player.
This might not be easy for some to understand as I am not the best
at explaining info.
As of now dvdsplit 0.5 will not do the first disk of star wars ep2
without having to do some of the following steps.
IF you would like me to post the files which are on disk 1 and disk2
just let me know.
Ripping and splitting the movie Star Wars EP2
This movie is a multi-angle movie
1. ripped the movie with Smartripper in file mode.
2. used DVDSPLIT version 0.5 to split the movie and checked the following in dvd split
(a) box (DO NOT COPY OTHER FILES.)
(b) Also in DVDSPLIT where you can copy other titles over to both discs I did that.
3. After DVDSPLIT finished there were DUMMY FILES in the folders disc’s one and two. These DUMMY FILES had (zero) bytes or (size=0).
So I had to get a file from the list which had some size,so I picked a .BUP FILE
I then replaced all of the zero files with this file and renamed it with the file I repelaced.
I did this because I use Gear Pro dvd to burn my dvd's and gear will
not load the files if they have zero bytes.
Since the main move chain is in vts_07 in order for gear to load up
to vts_07 you have to have all of the other vts_01_0.ifo and bups
and the vts_xy_0.vob's
4. To get rid of the three scrolling languages off the screen at the beginning of the movie
I copied the VTS_07_0.IFO file from the smart ripper rip over to the disc 1 folder.
5. This is the only file I copied from the smart rip ,left all other files as is on disc 1.
Ripping and splitting the second disc two
1. As far as the second disc went I didn’t have to copy the vts_07_0.ifo file to
this disc
2. Also on disc1 and disc2 didn’t have to change any of the pre or the post command

When picking your "split point" don't rely on the auto-picking of the program. Look at the cell splits, and pick a split point that is at the end of a cell, preferably just BEFORE the layer.
Typically it will auto-pick the layer split, which can cause problems with chaptering if it is in the middle of a cell.
This caused me some grief with Count of Monte Cristo, but eventually I figured it out.
Now then - when did .6 come out? I got .4 and .5, but no email on .6 - is this direct from Derrow's site?

Thank you for the information. The reason I have .6 is because my Paypal account had an old, out-of-date email address (which I didn't notice at the time) and I had to go directly to Derrow to get DVDSplit. He emailed me the most current version.

I have done SW-E2 with ifoedit by hand & it works fine on PC & standalone. Nero gives an error about reallocation, but burned it as udf/iso & no problems

Hi
I always use Nero (wizard dvd video as a checker) write down what files Nero says is missing or required, and then run ifoedit or ifoupdate for your disc's, and see what these programs do, I have found this is the easiest and best way to check my pre burned edits.

Derrow sent an email out, which I received this morning, saying "I'm planning to make a new version this weekend, which will kick ass. I will implement some big enhancements, which should solve some users problems with a few special DVD players."
Hopefully the problems in this thread will be taken care of without any manual intervention needed.
