I have Ripped some DVD's on my hardisk and would love to use Fairuse. Is there a way I can select the VOB's from my hardisk instead straight from the DVD. The reason is that Fairuse is having trouble extracting the whole DVD. So I had to use DVD Decrypter.
Thanks
Andy:(

No, fairuse strictly works off the dvd. You can use another utility like GordianKnot though.

Yes, Suzahara is correct. FairUse only reads input directly from a DVD.
However, I would be interested to know what trouble you had extracting the DVD directly using FairUse.

Thanks Guys
This is the Error message from Fairuse.
THE PROGRAM CHAIN COULD NOT BE INDEXES
ERROR: UNABLE TO READ FILE, UNABLE TO READ DVD DATA.
Then when i try using DVD Decrypter to ripper the VOB's this is what it said before ripping.
MEDIA REGION CODE IS MISMATCHED TO LOGICAL UNIT REGION!
THE SLOWER BRUTE FORCE 'VOBDEC/DECSSPLUS CRACKING METHODS WILL BE USED INSTEAD OF I/O KEY EXCHANGE
Thanks guys for trying to help

Were you trying to rip a DVD that has a different region than the one that is specified on your computer?

Ok, I see now. As the DVD Decrypter message seems to indicate, you must have a region locked drive and the DVD was from a different region. In this situation the "normal" key exchange won't work, but older key attack methods do.
Thanks for that. I've made a note of this limitation in FairUse.

If it's your DVD drive that's region locked, you'll need to find a firmware update to unlock it. If it's just Windows locking it, you can change it under your DVD drive properties.

Yes, there will be more updates of FairUse. I am just finishing up some other activities that have kept me busy for the last year or so, and I will be back looking at FairUse in the next month or so.

fu2k any update on FairUse? I see you posted in November that you were hoping to take a look at it again soon. I still use FU for everything. Tried GordionKnot a few times, but can't get it to run as easy as FU with Madrona.
Thanks for any info.

Despite my best efforts, I haven't been able to get enough time to do much more development, and it looks like this situation will continue.
So when I get a chance, I'm going to prepare, package and release the source.

I am very sorry to hear that you don't have the time to continue your project. :(

Sad to hear that. I just wanted to mail you these days and offer you my alpha/beta testing time :) . Your program is one of my favorites and if the same approach would exist for a free codec like Xvid it would be even better...
I hope that your program will be continued in a right way and not just played with source snippets or continued without real motivation (see the majority of the M2A and D2A projects)...
All the best and hopefully you will stay here and post once in a while (or even more often ;) )... :)

Sorry to hear that. IMHO, no program has even come close to the usability of Fair Use. It's a masterpiece, but MM4 is outdated. What I would really have loved is if you'd turned Fair Use into a frontend for Xvid and Besweet. With your talent, I'm sure it would have turned out as easy as the original Fair Use.

Without FairUse I don't think I would have every got into Divx and mpeg encoding. My success with FairUse got me started.
I still think its the best DivX program out there.
Hope to see more like it someday.
Thanks.

Just wondering if there was any progress on the source release? I'd be curious to tinker around with a few of its components...
