Can anybody tell me how a 117 min. movie can be over six gigs even after being stripped in IfoEdit??? What am I missing??

I do alot of capturing and I usually capture movies from satellite at 8mb/s vbr if they are 1 1/2 hours, if they are 2 hours or more, then I have to lower the bitrate. I can fit four episodes of star trek on one dvd-r that's about 190 minutes or over three hours.
If I capture at 8mb/s CBR then I can only fit a little over 1 hour.
