Ok, after 2 hours of reading and searching through this forum, I still don’t have an answer, I have come close to finding one, but not totally convinced yet, so here it is.

My DVD player can currently play svcds on cd-r format of course using dvd2svcd to create them, now, I just got a new DVD burner and want to take 2 svcd mpegs (2 movies) created with dvd2svcd and burn them to 1 DVD-r disc to play on my DVD player. What I already now is that I will have to use a DVD program to create a menu or some type of skip to the second movie to play it. Other than that, what should my BITRATE settings and CD SIZE be set at to take up the full DVD-r disc, 2 movies on 1 disc, or if I decide 3 movies on 1 disc, than what should the settings be for BITRATE per movie file.

I have seen some questions like this around this forum but the answer was always DVDs can not be svcd compliant, convert them to …. Or something like that, well, DUH, but my DVD PLAYER can also play vcd, svcd, & mp3 formats beside DVD format! So, I wish to stick with svcd format but will switch to the DVD-r recording format instead of cd-r, I just need some bit rate tips,

THANKS

Even though you are using DVD2SVCD to make the video and it seems the audio as well, although with DVD you can use AC-3, this is a DVD authoring/creation question and thus belongs in the DVD forum.

um, well, i am using dvd2svcd, and i would like to know what bitrate settings under the BITRATE TAB in dvd2svcd would be best for burning finished mpegs on a dvd-r disc, 2 mpegs per disc, I really dont want to author dvds at all or use the 'dvd' format as i said, i am happy with svcd since my dvd player can play them on cd-r's just fine,

i just want to the dvd-r disc instead of 740, 800, or 900 cd-r disc, why would this be moved, I just have to figure it out myself I guess, didn't expect it to be such a difficult question to understand.

It is harder then you think.
You have to consider the following.
What is the max bitrate your DVD will play a SVCD? Most DVD players max out around 2500Kbit.
Will your DVD player play a DVD-R with a SVCD on it? Many players will not. Once they see a DVD-R they go into DVD format.
These questions along with DVD-R bitrates are better answered by the DVD guys.

If you simply want to try it set the first section on the bitrate tab from ???-50 to ???-200 or whatever as long as it's longer then the movie. Keep the cd number as 1 and change the cd size to 4275 or so. I don't know the exact size of a DVD-R. Keep in mind to set this about 10mb's less then the DVD-R size.
Chnage the Max to 9000, the MAX AVG to 8000 and for the heck of it the Min to 800.

I don't think this will play as a SVCD, but try it if you want.
