Hi

I 've just tried CCE+avisynth(4 pass VBR) on two movies to reduce their sizes.(i used to use rempeg before)
One ot them was almost fitting on the DVDR and the other needed to be reduced a lot(mulloland drive region2)

I got two videos that are "blurry"(i don't know if this word is correct, i don't speak english fluently). I mean the picture is not sharp. Both videos ares blurry, even the one who needed a slight reducing operation. So where's the problem ? The picture is not bad but there's "blur"

The two movies were PAL region2. DVD2AVI said one was zigzag and the other alternate.

WHAT SETTINGS CAN BE THE REASON FOR MY VIDEOS TO BE "BLURRY" ?

I had to redo the 1st movie with rempeg and the picture was a lot sharper. For the second movie, the longer one(mulloland drive), there's too much work for rempeg(macroblocks, ...)So i'd like to givve CCE another chance.

Thanks if you can help.

Try without Low Pass Filter, if you had it checked on.

I noticed that if I use Low Pass Filter, the video is softer, or blurry, like you say.

Hi thanks for your answer.

However since i followed a guide, i think i didn't check this low filter box. I will check but if you have any other ideas they'll be welcome.
There are two things i don't know : what setting to use for the quality slider(the thing that gives more birate for complex scenes)and transposition matrix(standard, mpeg, ...)

What settings do you use for these two ?

thanks again.

Go to image quality setting in cinemacraft set it to 14 about.
Use low bias up to 5..
If nothing then something is messed up in the 1st encoding..

Try using BicubicResize - it is the sharper of the resizing methods. I usually use bilinear though, because it reduces the bitrate requirement for good image quality.

@all:

Per default the low pass filter is activated in CCE! You have to switch it off manually. Then the image *will* get sharper. It is well hidden in the video quality settings.

Well, i have been using the 2.50 version for some time (not much because i am new to CCE ;), but now i am using the latest version with the excelent AutoCCE to save the ecl file. I have read some threads stating that the 2.50 was still the best version, but didn't paid much attention to it. But now, after making two movies with the 2.66.01.07, i also feel that the image quality is somewhat "softer" (i disabled the low pass filter), at least to my eyes.
I still have more tests to do to come up with a definitive conclusion, but IMHO, 2.50 is, at least by looking to the movies i made with both versions, a little better. I know thqt this has already been discussed in another(s) thread, but i feel that tomti could try it and see.

Just click in the little box in the low pass filter (it's the first in the top) to, lets say, "unchoose" the filter ;)
