I made my first DVD using Scenarist. Result was saved to computer files and DVD image. Computer files play good from HD using PowerDVD. How can I write image on DVD-R. I'm using NERO 5.5.9.17 with SONY DRU500A. I found write image under file menu, but it doesn't like my media, even DVD size is 4G

Try with DVDdecrypter or Imgtool, both free.

Thanks for reply, I'll try it.

Is there any otherapps that support (.dvd) files?

Made Nero to understand (.dvd) image correctly.
I had to turn off wizard, because it was assuming CD not DVD media.
In addition found that Nero (my version) can't close DVD+R media, but works good with DVD-R.

FYI, DVDdecrypter complains with an error message "Invalid DVD file" when you try to open a .dvd image file generated by Scenarist.

Thats because the dvd file it is expecting is its own format, and not scenarists.

I have nero 5.5.9.17 and a DRU500a. I can get nreo to detect my drive but i cant get it to understand that i want to burn the image (.dvd) to a DVD rather than a cdr. Can someone post a step by step procedure for doing this?

thanks

i've also tried to burn with nero, only to achive failure :(
i tried to record 5 dvd-r and my stats are not the best right now...

1 with no errors, plays fine (recorded with veritas record now)
1 with some error messages (don't know what exactly, but still plays fine.
3 send to the garbage (1 with nero, don't know what happended i left it burning during the night, another one with dvd decrypter, finished the burn process, but can't be recognized on the burner !?!?!?! and another one with record now, but i was acessing the disk at that time, explorer and some winamp !!! so that shouldn't really count!!)

tonight i'm going to try again with record now max 4.5
i'm a little upset at the moment with my "yield" but hope things get better in the near future!!

I finished with my experiments.
Nero understand Scenarist .dvd file correctly but can't close DVD+R, so it can be used to burn images to DVD-R/-RW/+RW.
tlillehoff you need to turn off wizard!

RecordNow + GEAR DVD understand Scenarist .dvd if it renamed to .iso extension. Both nicely support DVD+r/-R/+RW/-RW disks.

i got it to work and heres what i did using nero.

1. export .dvd from scnearist
2. open nero5.5.9.17
3. select burn image, select .dvd file
4. change cd to DVD video in dialog
5. burn.

I tried it here and you're right tlillehoff, it works just fine :) This is a big help for burning DVD-R's. I can burn discs with Scenarist's built-in burn utility since it recognizes my Pioneer A03 just fine. But the problem is that Scenarist can't burn DVD-R's at 2X. Now with Nero, I can. Thanks very much for the tip :D

Maybe just a few details to add:

3. select burn image, (change file type to "all files")select .dvd file

3a. Foreign image settings dialog appears. Leave everything as is and click OK.

4. change cd to DVD video in dialog.

4a. Foreign image settings dialog appears again. Leave everything as is and click OK. In the burn dialog, finalize DVD option will automatically be checked and option is grayed out. :)

5. burn

Discs burned with Nero may work fine in your settop player, doesn't mean they will work in all settops. Like you, I used to happily burn my discs with Nero and they worked fine on my older Pioneer DV-434 player... Until one day, I bought a second player, a Pioneer DV-535 and saw to my dismay that those very same discs didn't play in it.

Then I tried the discs in 2 more settops at a friends place and a few more at a retail store I know one of the salesperson. The discs didn't play in them either. It sure wasn't the media because I use ONLY premium grade Pioneer DVD-R's.

Then I burned a disc (both DVD-RW and DVD-R) using the disc image method instead and now all my discs work in ALL the settops I've tried so far.

So generating a disc image takes an extra 15 minutes or so... Big deal!! What's a measly extra 15 minutes compared to all the time it takes to rip, strip, transcode, remux, etc..? With what I've learned through experience, I know I will NEVER use a Nero DVD-Video compilation to burn DVD's again. It's just NOT reliable.

Do the test, try it in other players than your own and you will see I'm right.

Oh... and maybe you're thinking... I don't care about other players as long as it plays on mine... Sure. But what if your player someday goes belly up and you have to buy a new one?... And if that new one refuses to play all the DVD's you burned with Nero?... Result: you effectively end up with a big collection of coasters.

and if you are thinking about buying a xbox and watching your dvd's forget it... Nero produces xbox incompatible disks for dvd playback
