View Full Version : New version of ImgTool

I've just finished a new version of the ImgTool. I also try to include the NeroAPI to burn the DVD. Of course - I have taken NO code from Derrow... but I can't test completely the compatibility to standalone players - it works on my own...

And... the ImgTool is free.

I have also included 2 newer versions of the MUX- and DeMUX libs.

If someone like the old Tool with Image creation, it's already there for download.

Yes, I LOVE it. And use it a lot. Thanks for your work.
I do a lot of image gen from ImgTool, then burn with DVDDecrypter.

You did well to add the Burn feature even if DVDBurn.

To all people having trouble with pixelisation at the end of the DVD, try making an image with ImgTool and burn the image with Nero or DVDDecrypter or Gear DVD Pro. It solve LOTS of problem.

Do not forget, even if it's freeware, you can donate a few bucks for this proggy if you like it.
I will do it, but I need to wait a bit as my DVD investments for this month already gave me some debate with my wife :-)

I also have the same problem :(

I found that if we uncheck the "Reallocate VIDEO_TS ..." box, the soft starts to burn, but as we need it to place the files on the right place on the DVD media, I don't think that this is the solution.
Doesn't this problem as nothing to do with the fact of being used in a DVD+RW drive ? Does anyone used it with a DVD+RW and had the same problem ?

I think more to a small bug in the proggy.
'VTS_02_2.VOB' is to be reallocated in my exemple, but there is no 'VTS_02_2.VOB' in my DVD.

Another question, is : How can I select the burn speed ? I have hacked 2X4all firmware but my low cost DVD-R need 1X burning.

Seems like NeroAPI looks for an existing VTS_02_2.vob file.

What files are used for an VTS should be stored in the matching ifo file...

Is this an original VTS set or a ripped one?

I have included a write speed select Drop-Down-Box. Just follow the link in the first post to download the new version.

...the other problems:
I've only a Ricoh MP5120 DVD+RW drive so I can't test anything with DVD-R/RW. Maybe uncheck the "High Compatibility Mode". This mode only burns more than 1GB of data to the DVD.

I've made following tests with success:

Con Air (DVD5 Pal),
Blade I (IfoEdit Movie only Guide, Pal)
...some self authored DVDs (DVDMaestro)

Is there someone "out there" who has tested the burn functions with success?!

...really few comments at this time!

You can add any comment to my ImgTool forum:

Are you using IfoUpdate to patch the ifo-file? Which movie makes trouble? Have you tried an "IfoEdit only guide"? If you have the time, please try the "IfoEdit Movie only Guide". It's important for me to know if it works if you don't use IfoUpdate!

Sorry for the delay, I was not @home this Week end.

OK. Concerning the first project I tried with your tool, I didn't insist and made an image with your previous tool version then burn with DVD Decrypter.

Concerning authoring, I am not too bad with, and feel my IFO/VOB are compliant and should not be a problem.
Anyway, I will do a test on a DVD5 as soon as I get one, as doing it on a DVD9 authored to DVD5 will give nothing.

I did another project and this time use your latest version. Thnaks a lot for the Burn Speed Feature.
I had to unckeck both case Reallocate VIDEO_TS .. and ...optimize DVD+R (I have a DVD-R) to allow to burn, and gives a nice result (@X1).
I only to do some testing (menu, jump, next track, previous on my standalone and results are OK ieven at the end of the movie.
But I need to watch the whole movie to give a final status.

So thanks, seems OK for me, will confirm soon.

For future releases :

Is that possible to allow to burn from any directory, doing a VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS on the DVD, even if not present on the HD.
Not a real problem, so if difficult to add, forget it.

A very good idea to me, but not sure it's DVD compliant and needs probably lots of work, would be to modify sector addresses in IFOs and burn as needed, in order to burn at the beginning of the DVD the main VTS with the movie, even it is VTS04.
The idea is to avoid read errors on the main movie and prefer, if any error at the end of the media, that it freeze and pixelate on bonus rather on the movie.

Hi,
I am trying to write an image of MI2 to dvd. The directory structure works fine on PowerDVD and IFOedit is happy with the structure ( get VTS ) . However when I create the image using imgtool(0.89) and write the disk out it no longer plays properly it does'nt even start in my player. I have written many dvd's out using this method without a hitch usually movie only but not explicitly .
The DVD contains the menu structure, with large VOBs removed but with the IFO's files present keeping the set 1,2,3,4 etc but I have done this before without issue.
After I have created the image if I check it with ifoedit ( originally ok ) the struct has changed. It seems that the imgtool program 0.89 is changing the structure.
If I use 0.99.1 will this change the dvd structure ifo's etc?
I think perhaps the only way I can proceed is to write from a directory but as we all know this causes compatiblity issues itself any ideas? I will try 99.1 tonight...

CouJo
19th November 2002, 14:03
@drafty
The NeroAPI (ImgTool 0.99.x) will check the structure but will change nothing if everything is ok. The only thing it should made is to place the files in right order on the disc...

If there is any problem with the NeroAPI I'll disable the included VIDEO_TS routine and make the right order for burning by myself ;) !

Changes:
Version 0.99.2 / 19.11.2002
============================
- new DVD ISO build function
 + sort files
+ generates VIDEO_TS dir if needed
+ no AUDIO_TS dir is needed anymore
- Reallocation of VIDEO_TS is disabled by default
(needed for burning uncomplete DVD Rool DIRs)

Note:
if you check the "Reallocate VIDEO_TS ..." box, the NeroAPI
will test your IFO/BUP/VOB files. If you have ripped or
stripped something, it is possible, that the API generates
an error. This only means that the DVD Root structure
is not 100 percent standard conform. In that case UNCHECK this box.

I have to admit that I'm a little confused...
Please correct me if I'm wrong:

1. ImgTool v0.8x uses a DLL (from DVD-Wise) to create a DVD compliant image file from a file structure with VIDEO_TS/AUDIO_TS folder. I used this method a lot and recorded that image file in a second step with DVD Decrypter.

2. ImgTool v0.9x uses the NeroAPI to record directly from file structure to your recorder. Thus no intermediate image file is generated.

As there are a lot of problem reports concerning DVD recording with NERO: What's the difference between method 2 and using NERO itself to record your DVD files?

Hope that someone can shed some light on this...

@Coujo : I played the whole movie and bonuses etc.. and the result is perfect. No pixelisation, nothing. I have two more to do soon (re-encoding at present) and I will try the latest 0.992.

@sundance : I think Imgtool only use the API to access the burner, but do not use the whole product at all.
The difference ? Quite easy for me. Nero gives me sometimes error on my files, even if well authored the movie and correct VTS address, burn and I get pixelisation at the end of the movie..

In fact, you can read many posts where people explain they get very good result doing an image, then, burning the img file with any burning tool. This new version keep the same benefit but avoid the boring and space consumming task of doing the image.
This will also win98 users to burn an image, as they can't do more than 4gb files on FAT32

sundance
20th November 2002, 16:03
klona,
I think Imgtool only use the API to access the burner...
If that's the case, then
a) What's the use of those options to "re-allocate" the files (same as NERO has)?
b) What algorithm/library is used to compile the image (imglib.dll is no longer within the ImgTool package)?

Maybe CouJo should know?

CouJo
20th November 2002, 16:41
ImgTool uses the functions form the NeroAPI, also Reallocate (if you check this).

The file structure is created by ImgTool self. There is no image file. Only a list of files in right order is created.

Of course, you can use Nero. The idea was to create a simple way to burn a DVD - nothing else.

So, if some dvd-rs burned with nero don't work in certain players, it's also certain that dvd-rs burned with the new imgetool will also not work in the same settop players ?

CouJo
20th November 2002, 22:11
Maybe... to be sure, the only thing you can do is to test it. You will ever get problems on some players. It doesn't matter which burn program you use - one standalone player will work, another not...

... you can also use the "old" ImgTool and burn the image with your favorite burn app.

It's impossible to make a 100 percent solution.

CouJo,

Will this current version (0.99.2) include the JACKET_P directory if it exists at the same level as the VIDEO_TS directory? Something like this:

target_directory (contains the following subdirectories):
-AUDIO_TS
-JACKET_P
-VIDEO_TS

'target_directory' is the directory specified to ImgTool.

CouJo just release me from this doubt: which do you think that will delivery more reliable results, your latest tool imgtool 0.99.2 or the old ones that hasn't the burn capability ? Or they are almost or exactly the same apart from the burn capability.
I'm asking this because the old one (0.89 for example) gived me 97% of good burning dvd-rs.

The library which creates the image in version 0.8x sorts the directories wrong. At the disc the VIDEO_TS dir comes first, but it should be the AUDIO_TS dir...

...but the NeroAPI has also its own problems. I couldn't say: "use only this one"! If vesion 0.89 works ok for you, use it. But you can also try the 0.99.x, maybe it works also for you.

Hi,
I tried burning with 99.3 last night A Bugs Life ( PAL ) onto a Verbatim R/W the resulting disk did not play in my XBOX but ok on my Sony standalone. I have used this same DVD-R/W before on the XBOX without issue.
I used dvd decryptor to write an ISO image of Bugs Life with success on to a DVD-R the day before. I must admit though that the previous version 89 could not handle bugs life either. Simply stated illegal navigation when played from the image using IFOedit and nothing when played from a stand alone ( wierd , no stripping btw just region free ). This behavior though is just like what used to happen when I burned in the past with Nero using the directory method.
I have to try with DVD-R's but i'll keep you posted.

It would be cool if you could add the old image file type back into the new releases of imgtool.

As of right now the new imgtool only creates .NRG files which cannot be loaded by daemon tools NOR can it be burned by other image burning software (I used stomp recordnow max because it allows me to burn using DMA).

However, the OLD imgtool has a bug where it'll crash IF i use a file name that is too long. This is not the case with the newer imgtool, as you probably fixed it.

So it would be great if you could include an option to must make a normmal .img or .iso file with your new imgtool.

...few information from Ahead for this feature... I think it's possible the same as "Get VTS Sectors" in IFOEdit.

Since most people has "Get VTS Sectors" already done, the default is unchecked. There is also a compatibility problem in some cases if you check this checkbox.

As I tried these function, I got never any error on reallocate...

One small problem I'm having with ImgTool .99.4 (and the previous versions) is that when I put in a DVD+RW that is not new and out of the box - it refuses to burn.

It will burn a DVD+R.

It would be nice if it asked whether I wanted to overwrite what is there like Nero does.

If I try to quick Erase it, that works, but then when I try to burn the erased disk, it says 'please insert a CDR or just click ok if you are using Image Recorder.

Am I missing something obvious?

BTW - when burning an image, it might be nice to default to the VOLUME name that was input.

But, all in all, a great and very useful program.

CouJo
13th December 2002, 08:04
Hm.., it's possible to add such a message box for not empty DVD+RWs.

...but then when I try to burn the erased disk, it says 'please insert a CDR or just click ok if you are using Image Recorder.'

This shouldn't happen. Is the DVD reloaded after erasing? This message pops up if you try to burn a DVD Root which doesn't fit to your inserted media.

BTW - when burning an image, it might be nice to default to the VOLUME name that was input

...no problem!

CouJo - I'm using a Memorex DVD+RW drive.

I'm not sure what you means by'Is the DVD reloaded after erasing'. I believe that ImgTool said that it was erased with no problem. I don't believe I removed it and then inserted it.

"try to burn a DVD Root which doesn't fit to your inserted media. "

This is not the problem, it was a few 100k smaller than the max size. Instead of burning to +RW, I just burned to an image - and then used Nero - what I always do with +RW disks and your program.

When I burn the ImgTool image with Nero on +RW, it always gives a msg (I forget exact msg) about the media not being blank and asks whether I want to overwrite it. Then it always burns with no problem.

As you are using Nero's API, possibly exacty the same sequence is possible with ImgTool. I don't have to format with Nero - it just does it automatically.

- a friday 13th release ;)
- bug fix in "Phase"/"Logline" report of log
- better handling non empty DVD/CD media
- Image file will use the same name as Volume Label

It's difficult to build a page where everyone finds everything. Since more and more people come to my page for help with ImgTool, I've added 2 links in the "Main Links" box. There is a link to the newest download and another link to the Online Help. There you will find also a version history.

...most people will know it - I have also some problems with English language...

Greets, CouJo!

CouJo - I usedthe main links - download ImgTool - and the Winzip file was named .99.4 - not the .99.5 as expected.

Thanks in advance for the modifications! It just keeps getting better and better!

Coujo,

How about this for a future version of Imgtools. If burning with reallocation checked fails, it automatically burns with it unchecked. You would have just a message in between stating that burn failed and it will switch to the other procedure.

@dvdWannabe
You are right. I've only updated the description and forgot the link. Argh... is fixed now.

@2COOL
This is possible - maybe in version 0.99.6 ;) !

@ CouJo,

Are DVDs created with your latest Imgtool similar to creating in Nero a DVD-Rom (UDF/ISO) with UDF 1.02 as prescibed in Derrow's site: http://mpucoder.kewlhair.com/derrow/nero.html

Yes, ImgTool sets the same flags: ISO and UDF, which creates a ISO-UDF-Bridge filesystem.

CouJo,

I just did Ocean's Eleven and Collateral Damage. For these I went and stripped off everything, created new ifos, and split. On both these original DVDs, video_ts.vob was not present and considered normal condition so that I went ahead and created new video_ts and vts_01 ifos.

Anyway when using imgtool 0.99.5, I got errors on all of four of these discs stating that "video_ts.vob was not present and there is a possibility that it may not be playable". It didn't matter if I had reallocation checked or unchecked, I still had that error message. Well, I went ahead and took the chance with reallocation checked and burnt Collateral Damage disk 1. Result: Would not play on my picky primary Sony standalone , but will play on an Apex though.

Now I went ahead and burnt it with Nero 5.5.9.17 DVD-video format and I got no errors and in fact, all discs were error-free and succesfull burns and all played in all my standalones .

Can you fix imgtool detecting of no video_ts.vob? Regular Nero has no problems. This gotta be a bug.

At this point of ISO tree creation I only check if video_ts.vob is present. If it doesn't exist ImgTool brings up the described MessageBox. Click on "yes" if ImgTool asks you (if you want to continue). Leave Reallocation checked - it has nothing to do with this MessageBox.

CouJo,

Using 0.99.5, I did your recommendation with reallocation checked or unchecked and I got burn failure for both. I can't even burn images either in any format. There's alot of DVDs coming out with no video_ts.vobs. If I read your reply correctly, you programmed ImgTool to detect if video_ts.vob is present? If so, would disabling that make a difference and ImgTool would still reallocate files.

Movies I'm doing with no video_ts.vobs: Pluto Nash, Scooby-Doo Meets Batman, Scooby-Doo Creepiest Capers

CouJo

If the video_ts.vob files is missed, following messagebox appears:

Warning:
Missing following file: "VIDEO_TS.VOB"
Do you want to continue?
Your created disc will possible unplayable!

Click on "yes" and ImgTool will go on even without this file. Thats all! It's only a warning and no break!!! If burning failes there must be another error.

CouJo,

I'm sorry to get you riled up but I made six coasters already but you mentioned there must be another error somewhere. Currently, I have Nero 5.5.9.17 installed with updated ASPI.

Scenario 1:
Imgtool 0.99.4 to 0.99.7 will burn disks and images if video_ts.vob is PRESENT. It doesn't matter if I did splits or created new ifos. Sometimes, I may have to disable reallocation sometimes but "burn failed" message doesn't pop-up.

Here are my factual scenarios...

Scenario 2:
Imgtool 0.99.4 to 0.99.7 will NOT burn disks and images if video_ts.vob is NOT PRESENT on splitted DVDs. Even clicking on "yes" will lead to "burn failed" error message. Nero will burn disk if I didn't have reallocation errors. Proven with Ocean's Eleven.

Scenario 3:
Imgtool 0.99.4 to 0.99.7 will NOT burn disks and images if video_ts.vob is NOT PRESENT on non-splitted DVDs. Even clicking on "yes" will ALWAYS lead to "burn failed" error message. Nero will burn disk if I didn't have reallocation errors.

So really Coujo, either Imgtool can burn in any scenario or can't at all. If it can burn, then I have no error problem. I only have problems with DVDs with no video_ts.vobs. In scenario 2, if Nero can burn then why can't imgtool? It uses the same API.

You know more about how programs work than me and what is your theory on this.

Does anyone have my problem too?

CouJo

First of all: if your are unsure if your ripped DVD works, use rewriteable media.

If ImgTool creates the VIDEO_TS ISO tree, it will check for following files: video_ts.ifo, video_ts.vob and video_ts.bup. If the video_ts.vob file is missed, then the above described message box pops up. If you say "no" here, the process is stopped. If you say "yes" the process goes on. There is no different handling or something else. Are there any details in the log?
...
I now have tested following Scenario:

I have on my HD a working DVD root from a french movie "Die fabelhafte Welt der Amélie" (this is the German title). From this movie I have stripped something out (language, subtitles) and have reencoded the video. After reauthor with DVD Maestro I have this VIDEO_TS dir on HD. Now I have renamed the video_ts.vob file to video_ts.vob.bak so ImgTool can't find this file. I start up ImgTool, use the ImageRecorder, call the Image "Amelie" and start the burn process. First the message "missing file" pops up. I press yes. Then "Reallocation failed" pops up (this is normally because I have renamed a really needed file), I press yes to go on. The message "missed file" appears again (this is because I simply start the burn function again) I press yes again and wait...

After some minuts I get a "...successfully completed"...

So if you have a DVD root without video_ts.vob, the only difference ImgTool makes is the "warning missed file" messagebox.

CouJo,

I was trying to burn The Adventures of Pluto Nash R1. The whole disk is less than 4.7GB. I just ripped all files with Smartripper.

I am using:
Windows 98 Second Edition (I see you using WinXP)
Nero 5.5.9.17
Imgtool 0.99.7
Current APSI downloaded from Adaptec for Win98 SE

Just before I perform this task, I had successfully burnt two DVDRs using Imgtool so the APSI is working.

Pluto Nash DVD contains the files:
Video_ts.bup
Video_ts.ifo
Vts_01_0.bup
Vts_01_0.ifo
Vts_01_0.vob
Vts_01_1.vob
Vts_01_2.vob
Vts_01_3.vob
Vts_01_4.vob
Vts_02_0.bup
Vts_02_0.ifo
Vts_02_0.vob
Vts_02_1.vob

So you see, this movie did not have a "Video_ts.vob" to begin with. I immediately tried to burn image using imgtool 0.99.7 with reallocation checked first.

By the way, reallocation failed because my vts_02_0.vob was 0kb. Does having Win98 SE have anything to do with it? I hope you can analyze what is going on with my Imgtool 0.99.7.

The first thing I see is the mass of drivers ImgTool lists. If you look in my log there is only one driver. Maybe there is the problem.

Where the ImageRecorder stops? If the disc is larger than 4 GB, Win98 has the problem with the max. filesize which is limited on Fat32 at 4GB.

btw. for all the other readers: Please don't use Nero 5.5.10.0. The DVD Video compatibility of this version is worse than all previous versions. So I'm looking for another burning API... If someone has an idea which API tp use, please contact me!

Thanx, CouJo!

Coujo,

In my last reply, I stated that I had a vts_02_0.vob at 0kb that got me for reallocation errors. So I went ahead and took that out, get VTS, and burn. Here is my results.

Burn with:

ImgTool 0.99.7 with or without reallocation-Burn failure.
ImgTool 0.99.4 with or without reallocation-Burn OK/No errors.
Nero 5.5.9.17 DVD Video- Burn OK/No errors.

Maybe I found the problem...

I think the described problem appears by recursive call of the burn function. I've changed this but I'm not sure if this will fix your problem...

So please download ImgTool 0.99.8 (http://www.coujo.de/portal/portal_database.php?action=view&fid=6&cid=1) and check it out. Let me know if it works or not...

CouJo,

I wanted to test ImgTool 0.99.8 with another problem DVD I had a month ago. My DVD is Scooby Doo Meets Batman R1.

18 Files:
Video_ts.bup/ 12KB
Video_ts.ifo/ 12KB
Video_ts.vob/ 0KB
Vts_01_0.bup/ 92KB
Vts_01_0.ifo/ 92KB
Vts_01_0.vob/ 6,6304KB
Vts_01_1.vob/ 1,048,574KB
Vts_01_2.vob/ 1,048,574KB
Vts_01_3.vob/ 1,048,574KB
Vts_01_4.vob/ 420,520KB
Vts_02_0.bup/ 28KB
Vts_02_0.ifo/ 28KB
Vts_02_0.vob/ 0KB
Vts_02_1.vob/ 589,428KB
Vts_03_0.bup/ 14KB
Vts_03_0.ifo/ 14KB
Vts_03_0.vob/ 0KB
Vts_03_1.vob/ 68,584KB

In this DVD, I have three vobs that are at 0KB (Video_ts,Vts_02.0, and Vts_03_0).

I had 4 testing scenarios:
1... Burn image with all 18 files
2... Burn image with 0KB files deleted(Video_ts.vob,Vts_02.vob,Vts_03.vob)and get VTS Sectors
3... Burn all 18 files directly to Sony DVD+R/RW DRU-120a
4... Burn directly to Sony DVD+R/RW DRU-120a with 0KB files deleted(Video_ts.vob,Vts_02.vob,Vts_03.vob)and get VTS Sectors

----------------------------------------
Scenario 1: Burn image with all files

ImgTool 0.99.8 with reallocation: reallocation failed:(
ImgTool 0.99.8 without reallocation: burn failure:(
ImgTool 0.99.4 with reallocation: reallocation failed/burn failure:(
ImgTool 0.99.4 without reallocation: image burnt/DVD burn OK
Nero 5.5.9.17 DVD-Video: Got pop-message error that I have files less than 2KB but have the option to have that ignored and image was burnt out of compliance.
Haven't tested if DVD burn is OK of image but I assume it'll work.
----------------------------------------
Scenario 2: Burn image with 0KB files deleted(Video_ts.vob,Vts_02.vob,Vts_03.vob)and get VTS Sectors

ImgTool 0.99.8 with reallocation: missing Video_ts.vob message/reallocation failed/burn failure:(
ImgTool 0.99.8 without reallocation: missing Video_ts.vob message/burn failure:(
ImgTool 0.99.4 with reallocation: image burnt/DVD burn OK
Nero 5.5.9.17 DVD Video: Image burnt
----------------------------------------
Scenario 3: Burn all files directly to Sony DVD+R/RW DRU-120a

ImgTool 0.99.8 with reallocation: reallocation failed:(
ImgTool 0.99.8 without reallocation: burn OK
ImgTool 0.99.4 with reallocation: reallocation failed/burn failure:(
ImgTool 0.99.4 without reallocation: burn OK
Nero 5.5.9.17 DVD-Video: reallocation failed but given option to burn out-of-compliance.
----------------------------------------
Scenario 4: Burn directly to Sony DVD+R/RW DRU-120a with 0KB files deleted(Video_ts.vob,Vts_02.vob,Vts_03.vob)and get VTS Sectors

ImgTool 0.99.8 with reallocation: missing Video_ts.vob message/burn OK
ImgTool 0.99.4 with reallocation: missing Video_ts.vob message/burn OK
Nero 5.5.9.17 DVD-Video: reallocation OK/burn OK

----------------------------------------

If reallocation worked, I felt no need to have reallocation disabled.

So what did I gather from all this testing?

SUMMARY:
1. ImgTool 0.99.8 will NOT burn images with or without reallocation but 0.99.5 will do if reallocation is unchecked.
2. ImgTool 0.99.8 will burn directly if no 0KB vobs are present.
3. ImgTool 0.99.4 will burn directly if with reallocation unchecked and OKB files present.
4. ImgTool 0.99.4 will burn directly without 0KB files present and no errors.
5. Nero 5.5.9.17 seems to be doing a good job but with past experience, if I get the option to burn out-of-compliance, chances are my Sony picky DVP-S300 won't play it.

Bad news: Something evil . is going on in the image burning department for ImgTool. Nero 5.5.9.17 works!
Good news: I can at least burn a DVD without Video_ts.vob present now but only directly:D

@2COOL
Just to be sure... Take a problem scenario and then disable realloc directly without a first try with enabled reallocation. Then try a burn or image creation.

It's really the first time that someone reports such a problem...

I see the problem in the mass of drivers listet by ImgTool. Which burn software you are using?

@dvdWannabe

Pretty simple answer: If you are completely happy with your installed version, use it - please - don't update.

Nero between 5.5.8.x and 5.5.9.x are good in compatibility. 5.5.10.0 seems to be not that good...

Done it. No change in status.

It'll take me time as I deleted the movie off my harddrive after successfully burning it, but I'll try to move all the VXDs except one, NeroAPIX.vxd. I just installed this today. As for burning software, I'm using Nero 5.5.9.17. I do have Recorder B's Gold that came with my burner installed.

Any ideas why ImgTool wouldn't work with Nero installed as Enterprise Edition? If I swap Nero's Enterprise serial for a standard key ImgTool loads and works fine. Just curious as to why this would be.

Hi Coujo,
One thing I would appreciate you update in your next release is a small fiw for this :
When reallocation fail, if you click OK to continue without, write speed come back to 2X even if you first choose 1X.

Another thing, but not sure ont hat one.
When copying DVD5, I rip in file mode with dvddecrypter then butn with Imgtool; This ensure the best compatibility and allow small change with ifoedit.

When I try after burn to delete the dir with files, it delete files but the dir itself is locked. I need then to reboot my XP to be able to delete. If I only do DVDdecrypter, dir are never locked.

With imgtool 0.998 and Nero 5.5.10.0, NTFS partitions

Coujo - could you add .ISO image creation?

If this were in place, I could mount it with Daemon tools and test the image before burning - or just store it on the hard drive for playing at a later time.

dvdWannabe

Coujo - never mind on ISO creation. I found out the Nero provides an image mounter for .NRG that seems to work ok.

@ N3m1515
Read the help:

F: Nero knows my recorder but ImgTool doesn't...
A: Hm... interesting problem...
Have a look at the Log window. Try to find something like "illegal serial number". Have you found that string? There is the problem. Nero may run without problems even if you use an illegal serial, but the API doesn't! Use your own legal serial number and ImgTool will know your recorder too.

@ klona
You've got PM! Please test this version and let me know if it works (or not ;) )!

@ The Flash
I really don't know why ImgTool doesn't start with Nero Enterprise. I have tested it and find the same behaviour...

Thank you Coujo.
Version 0.999 solves the burning speed prob when reallocate fails. It stay to the 1X speed previously selected.
Just a small thing, if you select first speed then select the root dir, the speed case goes to an empty case, but the speed selected before is still active if you burn. a small display prob in fact.

I just did one DVD-R but was able to delete the dir, even with imgtool still open. Seems it's ok but I would need more burn to be sure.

Concerning your advice to use nero 5.5.9.X instead of 5.5.9.10 which has bad result :
I had pretty bad burn and though it was a bad serie in my bulkpaq stock but it's probably more a problem with. In fact, coming back to 5.5.9.x helped me, but not enough to come to the same level than before. I also did a 1.40 firm update and Bulkpaq are Princo in fact and it seems there is effectively a problem with that firm and Princo media. Will downgrade and test the result in a new thread I think.
BTW, I look @ quality with DVDspeed results. Not perfect but a good clue

Thank you for your tests.

There is a new version of ImgTool with following changes:

Version 0.99.9 / 11.01.2003

- close every find handle
(hope now the source DVD Root can be deleted
without restarting windows)
- Don't change Speed after
"automatical reallocation OFF"
- choosed Speed is now saved in ini file

...if someone knows Linux programming and the version numbering on some projects, he will know, that there is never a real version 1.0 of any software. A real 1.0 would be a software without any Bugs! ...and there will never be a complex software without bugs!
... so the version number 0.99.9 of ImgTool means, I'm at the end of ImgTool programming with the Nero API 5.5.8.2. At this moment there is no newer API SDK version, also if the newest Nero version is 5.5.10.0.
This version of ImgTool will be the last one for some time. If the API changes and give some new possibilities, I'll include them but until then, this is the final ImgTool 0.99!

- minor changes in help file

...and another suggestion: Ahead has improved the DVD compatibility in Nero 5.5.10.7b - so the best version to be Standalone compatible is this version ;) !

Thx for the update.
Perhaps something left with erasing the DVD-RW, which causes Imgtool to hang (Frozen)
I did not test further as , in the same windows session (No reboot I mean but Imgtool killed), I start Nero and erase from there then close nero, start imgtool and burned successfully.

A small option I would like is to be able to avoid the eject tray at the end of the burning. I often burn when going to sleep or leaving for work, and the tray stay open all the night/day.
And I have a very funny cat, always looking for some stupid joke :-)

Something else is you need to put an empty DVDR, wait for the burnber to correctly detect it (A few sec until the yellow light appears), then only start imgtool.
If you don't wait for the burnber to detect, you can't choose the burning speed and need to close, relaunch.

In the other hand, I did direct copy from my DVD-116 to my A03, just by using the source dir directly on the source DVD and it worked very nicely.

And ImgTool is still the best solution to burn properly, and I encourage every people with burning problem to try it.

Hello Klona,

I've tested something and maybe I can fix something. Please test it. It's no official release but maybe it becomes one ;) !

Here is the link:
http://www.coujo.de/download/ImgTools.zip

Whats new?
- "Reload Speed Box"-Button added
- More Burn Settings (see Menu ==> Other Settings)
- improved erase routine if you try to write on non empty DVD-+RW media

But note: You now need Nero 5.5.9.14 or better!!!

Please post any suggestions!

Thanks.

Was already on the 5.5.10.7b, updated from the 5.5.9.14...

Yes new version fixes the problem with erasing a DVD-RW, both in quick and full mode, from the erase button, or when trying to burn a not-empty DVDRW.

A progress bar would be welcome for the full erase mode, but it's not mandatory.

Thanks for "not eject" options, and a good idea to add button to reset to default DVD settings; The power of Imgtool comes from the fact it's simple to configure and to use.

With these tests I also found that the Abort fonction do nothing, except freezing the display.

ImgTool seems to be waitong for the burner to be ready, so no more dectection problem.

Great also that it remember which drive is the burner.

I am actually using ImgTools 0.89, so I don't mind too much, but I just wanted to let you know that with the newer versions (0.99 - 1.00.3) I still have this occassional problem, that ImgTools just doesn't start, most often, when upgrading Nero, I think...sometimes solved by reinstalling Nero as you suggested, sometimes not solved...I didn't investigate too much, because I don't use the burn versions, but others might have the problem as well...

CouJo

This is really a problem but I don't know how to fix it. If you use a Nero Enterprise Key, ImgTool never works.

Another way is to look in your taskmanager and search for a process like "imapi". Kill this process and try to start ImgTool again.

Also the combination of various installed burning software can cause this problem.

Another way is to look in your taskmanager and search for a process like "imapi". Kill this process and try to start ImgTool again.

Also the combination of various installed burning software can cause this problem.

IMAPI is not running.

Enterprise key: Not that I am aware of...

And I already had different burning programs installed and uninstalled...I don't know any pattern to this behaviour...but I didn't play much with it, because I use ImgTools0.89 anyway...

Hello Coujo, I did not have time to report about the beta you sent me, but this works fully OK for me. ImgTool 1005 is great.
I will try Command line asap.
Another feature could perhap be to integrate with the explorer; Right click, Burn with Imgtool and this launch Imgtool to burn the Video_TS dir with the folder name as volume name, replacing non supported letters by allowed one ( like "_" instead " ")

Command Line is OK. An option to choose the burn speed should be nice.

Today I've released a new version of ImgTool Burn: Version 1.00.6.

What's new?

Version 1.00.6 / 15.07.2003
===========================
- installer used
- context mode added
- cl error handling improved

What does the context mode mean?

Only a small improvement: rightclick on a drive or directory, choose "Burn with ImgTool..." in the upcoming context menu. This will open ImgTool and insert the "right clicked directory" in the directory box of ImgTool Burn.

Download the newest version [ here (http://www.coujo.de/portal/portal_database.php?action=show_cat&cid=1) ].

@klona
I've slightly changed the Volume Label checking so that spaces are converted to "_". I haven't used the directory name as Volume label because what happend if you right click on the VIDEO_TS folder? So you always have to input the Volume Label but I think nevertheless it's an improvement.

I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this, but ever since I changed from version 1.00.4 to 1.00.5, I can no longer play my DVD-R's on my very sensitive Toshiba player. I don't know what has changed in the code, but that's what has happened. I'll try 1.00.6 today to see if that fixed anything, however, if it doesn't I'll have to go back to the old version that was working for me. Interesting stuff. Has anyone found compatibility problems with the new versions?

Since 1.00.5 the filesystem is per default set to UDF only. But you can change this in the menu Settings ==> Filesystem Flags. Check Enable ISO 9660, press OK and go to Setings ==> Save Settings.

I hope this will help.

That windows explorer integration is pretty cool.
Here's a mirror ImgTool 1.00.6 just in case his site has trouble again. Now it seems totally fine though so you shouldn't have problems.

Thanks to imgtool and autoshrink...dvdshrink now is a complete one click process.

Thanx for the 9660 tip. Would it be a good idea to enable that by default so others don't have the same problems?? Just a thought! Great tool though.

CouJo

@rkorkie
I've disabled ISO because of the comments of some other people (ISO also enables Joliet. This is a Bug in the Nero API and makes sometimes trouble). So what do you think should I do ;) ... ?!

...but you can set it to enabled and so this should be no big issue.

rkorkie

I don't mind setting it automatically myself. I was just thinking about other people that may have the same troubles and not know why. Is there any way you can put a disclaimer or something else of some sort to prompt or ask the user before they burn? Some might think that's an annoyance, but you can have that reminder as a setting you can turn on or off. Maybe you want to start using an INI file or the registry to save some of these related settings?

CouJo
16th July 2003, 20:35
There is already an ini file and I save something to it.

...and there is a point in the help in the FAQ section:

anyone try imgtool 1.00.6 with Nero6? I'm curious if it'll work or not.

rkorkie
17th July 2003, 03:29
Yes, it works just fine...as long as you don't have compatibility problems with iso 9660 being turned off!! ;-)

klona
17th July 2003, 08:01
it's when ISO9660 is on that some compatibility issues raise.
SA is a strange word isn'it ?

rkorkie
17th July 2003, 16:43
Right, that is what I understand. However, for me, when ISO 9660 is turned off, my player, a relatively new one, no longer can load the dvd's.

CouJo,

I hope I'm not asking the obvious, but is it possible to create an image with the jacket picture for the disc? I'm getting problems with pixelation burning with Nero, whereas I've never had any problems with ImgTools and burning with decrypter.

CouJo
25th July 2003, 09:33
The picture quality shouldn't be a problem of Nero... but you can try the JACKET_P dir with ImgTool Classic. I don't have a player who uses this dir but I think ImgTool Classic will include this directory...

There is a new version of ImgTool Burn - version 1.00.7.

Whats new?

Version 1.00.7 / 07.08.2003
===========================
- new NeroAPI 6.0.0.0
- official support for Nero 6.0.x.x
- ISO 9660 is enabled by default
(NeroAPI Bug was fixed in Nero 6)
- setting DVD-ROM Booktype now possible
(Menu "Other Settings" )
- you now need at least Nero 6.0.0.0!

The main advantage is that now no more Joliet part is created in the UDF/ISO tree. So the compatibility should be improved again. Furthermore you can enable DVD-ROM Booktype in the settings menu. This will help some problem players.

Download the new version [ here (http://www.coujo.de/portal/portal_database.php?action=show_cat&cid=1) ].

I am having 2 issues with version 1.00.7.

1) When re-creating TV episode dvd's, after encoding, authoring, and running IFOUpdate, all is usually well, and the burning goes without warning. Now, when I press the burn button, I get an error:

"Reallocation of DVD Video files failed. Do you want to try to burn your dvd without reallocation? You'll possibly burn a coaster."

Here is the log:

"10:27:39 AM #1 Phase 112 File APIProgress.cpp, Line 235
DVD-Video files reallocation started

10:27:39 AM #2 DVDREALLOC -21 File DVDVideoCompilation.cpp, Line 1161
Required file 'VTS_02_5.VOB' is not present

10:27:39 AM #3 Phase 115 File APIProgress.cpp, Line 235
DVD-Video files reallocation failed"

The thing is, after re-encoding, I no longer have a VTS_02_5.VOB file. I ran IFOUpdate, and testing with PowerDVD, and it works. Is this a bug of the software or a problem on my end??

2) I'm not sure if it's a file system compatibility thing, but my volume label no longer gets burned to the DVD. All the volume label becomes is "NEW". Any ideas there as well?

CouJo
10th August 2003, 20:34
Have you tried "Get VTS Sectors" in Ifoedit? If Nero API says that the file is missed, then the corresponding ifo file has a wrong entry.

The volume label is a interesting behavior. I have also heared this issue from another people but I can't confir this:
See image... (http://www.coujo.de/pix/isobuster.gif).

The only Issue I know is the directory order in the UDF part of the media. This is a new bug but it's not a real problem - ImgTool 0.89 has the same issue...

Greets, CouJo!

rkorkie
10th August 2003, 21:45
I always use IFOEdit to do the Get VTS Sectors each and every time. It makes some corrections, as always, then I proceed to burning. Either way, everything plays fine on my DVD player, but this seems like a message that should be resolved somehow, either on my end or the software's.

As far as the label, it seems like this started happening once I moved to Nero 6.0 and/or using ImgTool 1.00.6 and greater.

Is it possible to implement commandline image creation on imgtool classic? I'd like to be able to create an image using the command line, for burning with another app :)

CouJo

Use the included mkisofs.exe. This is the command line tool from the Cdrtools suite. With this program you can create the image.

Thanks Coujo.
What is the best nero version you advice for this new ImgTool version ?

CouJo
25th September 2003, 09:41
I suggest the newest Nero 6.0.0.15. The first 6.x release has a bug with the Volume Label but since version 6.0.0.11 almost everything has been fixed (only the filesorting in the UDF Part outside the VIDEO_TS folder is wrong) but this doesn't affect the compatibility.
