I wanted to know which is the best codec to encode all my Anime DVDs to.
I first though RV9 was very good and with Helix it is the way to go. However i find the information about encoding anime to Rv9 limited... or rather.. the information for RV9 is generally very limited and Real have a EXTREMELY bad reputation. No matter what forum on the web i go, which languages of the forum... i seems to be discourage to use Real...

I was so enthusatic when i first start off. Now i only feel alone and no support at all.... Which makes me to think back.... is Real as a company really that bad?? So bad that any body using it seems to get fired at every forums...... ( that is except doom9 of coz... that is why i am still here )

It seems so many people encode anime with either Divx or Xvid......

DOes any body know ANY resources about encoding Anime to RV9??

thx.... that is all i have to say...

You don't have to know much to encode to RV9 - what you need is a good avisynth script that makes a good source for the encoding. You can encode using RV9 with almost no parameters if you have a good script for the source.

I'm using RV9 (still using the Realproducer public preview commandline) to encode cartoons like Simpsons and Futurama (captured from TV or from DVD). For this purpose, RV9 absolutely beats Divx 5, no question. A 100MB Simpsons RV9 episode looks better than a Divx 5 140MB Episode, that's what counts for me...

For stuff other than cartoons I don't really like the looks of RV9 - a bit too smooth for my taste, so I'm using Divx 5.

The new RealOne Player isn't a bad player and I don't really care what the company does or not (we're all using Microsoft, right?)
And btw Real just tries to open their codec a bit so that other players will be able to play RV and RV can be used with the .ogg file format (this is how I understood it, I might be wrong).
