View Full Version : Project has different field order throughout!!

Just completed a VegasVideo/CCE 266/Maestro project of my summer holidays and when I played the DVD, some chapters have the incorrect field order and some seem to be correct (Jittery Motion). I haven't had a chance to view the DVD from the start to see if the field order changes at various points, yet.
I rendered from Vegas to an .avi, then encoded with CCE 266, then made project in Maestro.
I used EasyChanger to try and change the field order of the authored .vob files and it worked on the _1.vob but EasyChanger could not find the aspect ratio on the other .vob files!
So tonight I plan on running EasyChanger on the .mpv file (4GB) that CCE266 made. Should this correct the problem for the whole file??
Is this problem typical, having the field order vary throughout a camcorder tape? or did Vegas cause it or did CCE cause it??

if you used the same field order whilst editing, then it should be fine after the change. you are probably seeing jumping on parts, and the parts that arent jumpy are actually not properly interlaced ;)

Hi,
I had that with a DVD, changing FO from chapter to chapter. I split at Cell ID (chapters) encoded separately and changed FO with EasyChanger accordingly.
In your case, find out where the FO changes, in your authoring program set a chapter marker at this point, compile, use VStrip (or other) to rip/split at Cell ID to get the separate Video Streams, patch accordingly, replace the video stream in your authoring software by the patched and compile again. That should solve your issue.

Thanks for the info guys.
I used easychanger on the .m2v and it solved the problem. However one funny thing happened after I reauthored. I get random little stutters in the video during playback. I think I know what might be causing this.
I cheated when I recompiled the new easychanged .m2v with Maestro. I didn't let Maestro check the file to create a new .prv file (I think that's the name). I used the old .prv for recompile which was for the incorrect field flag .m2v.
Would this cause stuttering or quick little jumping here and there? It's very short, just enough to notice, sort of like missing a field here and there??
I'm going to recompile tonight and let Maestro recheck the new file.
Does anyone know what Maestro is actually doing when it checks a .m2v file?

No, the .prv file is just for the preview, it's a kind of small movie with low-res for fast browsing. It has nothing todo with the final project which is build exclusively from the input streams.
Maestro builds thumbnails for inserted stills and encodes the stills to .m2v video (+ a .prv for preview again), where the thumbnails are used for the preview prior to encoding. This is similar.

i get this stuttering at work with DVDVirtuoso, it only happens with the realtime preview, windvd plays fine.

Well mikeathome, looks like your right. I reauthored after getting Maestro to make a new .prv file and no difference. This is very strange. The funny thing is this -
I have two menus, one leading to the first 8 chapters, and the other one leading to the last 8 chapters. All chapters are in one .m2v file. In Maestro I have put an end chapter action for chapter 8 to go back to the first menu, and I've put the end action for chapter 16 to go back to menu two.
Now the strange thing is that this slight stuttering every 5 to 10 seconds does not show up in the first 8 chapters!! Only in chapters 9 to 16 does it always appear!! I tried slow motion during playback but I couldn't see any glitch or anything but they always happen in the same place during normal playback speed.
Could that end action for chapter 8 have anything to do with this? I don't think it should but that's the only thing I can think of. The full .avi file was encoded all at once with CCE so that can't be it.
If I can playback the CCE encoded .m2v file (using WinDVD) to a TV that may help me narrow the problem but can I do this by using the video output of my video card into a TV?
Any thoughts?
