Adding subtitles are permanent bitmaps on AVI

I need to have the subtitles come out without any extra configuration, meaning that the subtitles need to be rendered into the DVD's video stream. How do I combine the two as it gets encoded to DivX? Note: I use DVD2AVI 1.86.

You can use vobsub.

I thought VobSub overlays text on the video in realtime. It can also render it permanently into the video stream while encoding to DivX also?

Yes, just use it as a virtualdub filter. It might explain how to do it in some of the guides on this site.
