I have a dvd-rom and a cd burner. I will be getting a A04 soon. What settings as far as slave, master, etc... should I configure my drives to get the best possible performance out of the A04 burner?

I recommend to put the A04 in master.
Here is the way I would connect that :

IDE1 :
Master : HD
Slave : cdburner

IDE2 ;
Master :A04
Slave ; DVDROM

That you speed up ripping DVD from DVDROM to HD.
It can cause trouble when direct copying DVD from DVDROM to A04.
But anyway direct copy too often fail, and ISO rip with dvddecrypter then ISO write still with DVD decrypter is the most reliable method, and you are in the best case with this config.
Except if you drive is 100 or 133, as the cd burner is not and all the IDE1 will decrease to 33 or 66...
Remove the CDburner and do some tests to check.

Concerning jumper, it's quite easy :

Forget CS (cable Select), it's shit
Choose MA or SL, it's always written on the device. You don't need the doc.
