View Full Version : XviD as alternative for real-time encoding (TV grab, full PAL capturing)

Hi all,

I am glad for TV capturing.
Actually I using a conventional mjpeg codec (morgan-multimedia v3) for TV grabing. I using virtualdub, VfW Bt878 drivers, win98SE.

But I have relative strong CPU (Athlon XP 1600+, my old Duron 750 is away) now. This MJPEG codec unuses full potential power of CPU. For my preferred bitrate about cca 3000 kB/s (I am limited by harddisk freespace) is CPU usage only about 30-40% :(
CPU is 'little' unutilized.

I want to get much better quality, but I don't want higher bitrate (see above).

I laborate with using XviD for capturing full PAL (720x576)- YV12.

settings:
ME=medium, interlace support=ON, other default (09112002 Koepi build).

Hmmmm, CPU is pretty utilized now (but not overutilized), quality is very amazing. :)

But capturing process is (my opinion) kind of unstable (against mjpeg codec using).
After few minutes PC totally freezes...

Any recommendations? :)
